Unleashing the Full Potential of Destiny 2's PlayStation Collab

Destiny 2's Season of the Deep collaboration with PlayStation is just the beginning Bungie has the potential to elevate the crossover by incorporating cosmetic items inspired by Sony's iconic franchises, making the game even more thrilling for fans

Destiny 2 has a history of successful crossovers, collaborating with major franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Fortnite. With Sony's recent acquisition of Bungie, many fans were eagerly anticipating a potential collaboration between the gaming giant and some of PlayStation's exclusive titles. And now, Bungie has delivered with Season of the Deep, introducing a stunning array of collectible cosmetics.

Bungie has paid homage to some of PlayStation's biggest properties with class-specific armor sets for Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters. Titans can channel their inner Ghost of Sparta with armor featuring Kratos' iconic red tattoo. Warlocks can honor Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima by dressing as a Samurai, while Hunters can sport Horizon-themed armor complete with beads, a Focus, and machine parts. The collection is topped off with a fantastic fungus-covered Ghost inspired by The Last of Us' Clicker. With such successful collaborations, it's clear that Bungie has the potential to continue producing exciting PlayStation crossovers in the future.

When considering potential franchises for collaboration with Bungie's Destiny 2 universe, one that immediately comes to mind is Death Stranding. The inclusion of a BB pod Ghost opens the door for cosmetic options for all three Destiny 2 classes. Titans could embrace the look of the package-stealing MULEs, Warlocks could sport Fragile's iconic jacket, and Hunters could don a Bridges hood to protect from Timefall or even a design inspired by Higgs and his golden mask.

Additionally, Bungie could further explore The Last of Us, one of the four properties in their existing crossover. With the recent popularity of the IP due to the successful HBO series, interest is at an all-time high. While a fungus-covered Ghost would be a nice touch, the concept could be expanded to include skin options. Fungus-covered armor sets for all three classes inspired by infected types, such as a Titan modeled after Bloaters, could be visually stunning. It may not make sense to put a Hunter in Joel's flannel shirt, but there are many other possibilities to explore.

One of the greatest opportunities for the PlayStation collaboration lies in the creation of Ghost Shells inspired by the company's mascots. Although Ghost Shells based on Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot are unlikely due to their association with Activision, characters from Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxter would make fantastic shells. Modern mascots such as Sackboy and Astro Bot could also be featured, with a Ghost adorned with a Zipper for the former and an antenna for the latter.

If PlayStation were to incorporate cosmetics from its overlooked first-person shooter games, it would make for some excellent customization options. A Warlock sporting a Chimera head from Resistance or a Titan decked out in full Helghast armor from Killzone would be easy to envision. Other overlooked properties like Infamous and Days Gone could also be intriguing, with Cole MacGrath's signature outfit serving as a great skin, and Deacon St. John's motorcycle holding the potential to become a memorable sparrow.

Bungie could continue this new collaboration for multiple Seasons, considering PlayStation is working on new IPs and franchises like Twisted Metal have yet to be mentioned. While it remains unclear whether this will happen, a Death Stranding partnership seems to be the most promising of all the options, and it could be an ideal way to build anticipation for the release of Death Stranding 2 in the future.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
