However, the most noteworthy addition to Rainbow Six Siege is the introduction of a new operator named Ram.
Ram, also known as Bo-Ram Choi, is a female attacker hailing from South Korea. Joining Team Rainbow's Redhammer squad, her specialty lies in forcefully breaching defenders' sites using her unique gadget, the BU-GI Auto Breacher. This remote-controlled automated drone has the ability to demolish soft floors, walls, barricades, and deployable gadgets like shields and barbed wire, making it the ideal tool for disrupting defenders' setups. Currently, Ram is equipped with four bulletproof BU-GIs, except for a vulnerable red canister on their rear, which can be destroyed by gunfire. Ram's arrival is highly anticipated, although there are concerns that she may be too powerful upon her release.
What Makes Ram So Powerful in Rainbow Six Siege
Ram has the potential to excel as a destruction operator within the game. Much like Sledge and Buck, she specializes in dismantling defenders' sites with her unique gadgets. However, Ram's BU-GIs offer a safer and more versatile approach compared to Sledge's Breaching Hammer and Buck's Skeleton Key shotgun. Unlike her counterparts, Ram's BU-GIs are automated and can turn slightly in one direction, allowing for precise destruction of surfaces and gadgets.
Sledge's Hammer is effective in creating openings in soft floors and walls, as well as destroying deployable items like barbed wire and shields, similar to the BU-GI. However, Sledge puts himself at risk as he must wield his hammer instead of his firearm, and he needs to be in close proximity to his target. On the other hand, Buck's Skeleton Key is proficient at rapidly and extensively demolishing soft floors, walls, and ceilings. However, it lacks the ability to dismantle bulletproof gadgets. Additionally, when Sledge and Buck attempt to destroy soft floors above defenders' sites, they face the danger of being eliminated by nitro cells from below or being ambushed by enemy operators.
Ram doesn't have to concern herself too much with the issues faced by Sledge and Buck because players simply need to toss their BU-GIs and flip a switch to kickstart the destruction. Once the BU-GIs are activated, Ram can either push the site or keep an eye out for any flanking maneuvers. It's also worth noting that Ram is equipped with two formidable primary weapons in Rainbow Six Siege, namely the high-rate-of-fire R4-C and the LMG-E with its generous magazine capacity. This not only makes her a promising operator with her gadget, but also gives her the potential to secure eliminations.
How Ram Might Be Nerfed in a Future Rainbow Six Siege Update
Ram's introduction to Rainbow Six Siege is reminiscent of the inclusion of Ace, an attacking operator specializing in breaching, who surpassed the original hard breacher, Thermite, in terms of capabilities. Ace outshines Thermite due to the efficiency of his three SELMA Aqua Breachers, which effortlessly create sizable openings across multiple reinforced walls, while also boasting the AK-12, a more formidable weapon. Despite undergoing some adjustments to his gadget and the AK-12's recoil and sight options in various R6S updates, Ace remains a favored choice among players, surpassing Thermite's popularity.
Ram's potential power creep is still uncertain, as both Sledge and Buck have their own unique advantages and weaponry that players may prefer. If Ubisoft decides to nerf Ram, they have several options to consider. They could reduce the number of BU-GIs from four to three, decrease the gadget's duration, or introduce additional methods to counter the gadget. Currently, players can only shoot the BU-GIs' canisters or use impact grenades and nitro cells to destroy them. However, it would be beneficial for Ubisoft to provide more means of destroying Ram's mechanical gadget, as it remains immune to various gadgets like Bandit/Kaid's electricity and Aruni's Surya Gates.
