Ubisoft Montreal Enhances Shotguns in Rainbow Six Siege with Enhanced Accuracy and Destructiveness, Boosting Their Versatility

The shotgun rework has the potential to significantly influence the game's meta, specifically for defending operators. The M870 shotgun, in particular, is anticipated to emerge as a formidable weapon in the enhanced gameplay.

Opinions on the shotgun rework are divided among fans. Some enthusiasts appreciate the newfound effectiveness of shotguns for medium-range encounters, while others argue that it has transformed Rainbow Six Siege into a game reminiscent of Fortnite, deviating from its tactical FPS origins.

Ubisoft Montreal has introduced a new update for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege that significantly enhances the performance of shotguns. This weapon rework, however, has sparked some controversy among players as part of the same update.

Ubisoft Montreal implemented significant changes to shotguns in their Y8S3 patch for Rainbow Six Siege, which became available on August 29. While all in-game shotguns were adjusted, the ITA12L, M870, SG-CQB, and Buck's Skeleton Key underwent further tweaks to improve their overall performance. Although the official changelog from Ubisoft Montreal does not provide extensive details, Nicholas "Jynxzi" Stewart, a Twitch streamer, demonstrated the effects of the changes in a gameplay clip on TikTok. The clip shows Stewart defeating an operator with just two shotgun shots from a distance of approximately 40 feet.

However, it is important to note that this accuracy improvement is dependent on specific circumstances. Recent player reports suggest that the full benefits of the buff can only be realized when aiming down the sights while remaining stationary. Nonetheless, the enhanced versatility of shotguns is expected to have an immediate impact on the game's meta, particularly in relation to the loadouts typically used by defending operators in Rainbow Six Siege. One shotgun to keep an eye on during Operation Heavy Mettle is the M870, which was already a highly potent shotgun in the pre-buff meta.

The response on social media to these changes seems to be divided. Some fans appreciate the increased effectiveness of shotguns in medium-range battles, while others believe that the improvement is too excessive, causing Rainbow Six Siege to resemble Fortnite rather than maintaining its intended tactical FPS style.

Apart from the shotgun rework, the Y8S3 patch introduced numerous other alterations. One notable addition includes the introduction of a new operator, Ram, who has been criticized by some players as a prime instance of power creep.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
