When Operation Dread Factor launched on May 30, 2023, Rainbow Six Siege players were in for a treat with a plethora of new content. The seasonal tradition of map reworks and quality-of-life updates was followed, but the highlight was the introduction of Fenrir. This two-health and two-speed defender has a unique gadget - the F-NATT Dread Mines. With five of these at his disposal, Fenrir can block trackers' vision, causing fear and allowing him and his teammates to take out their opponents. However, what makes Fenrir truly intriguing is his background and how his name is linked to Norse mythology.
Rainbow Six Siege: How Fenrir’s Life Mirrors the Myth
Svensson easily found employment with Deimos due to his military and scientific background. For those unfamiliar with the Rainbow Six universe, Deimos is a notorious antagonist who has orchestrated several high-profile assassinations and caused conflicts between Rainbow and its allies, earning him the title of one of the most dangerous terrorists in the game's mythos. Interestingly, Deimos and Fenrir are named after deities from Greek and Norse mythology, with Deimos being the god of fear and terror and Fenrir being a monstrous wolf born of the god of mischief, Loki. It's no surprise, then, that Deimos would recruit someone with expertise in fear toxins. However, Fenrir eventually discovered Deimos' true intentions to use his technology for terrorism and fled the facility in search of sanctuary with the Rainbows.
Rainbow Six Siege’s Fenrir May Be Out for Revenge
Thermite initially suspected that Svensson may be a Deimos spy, but after learning more about his background, studies, and intentions, he reconsidered and saw the potential for Svensson to aid in Rainbow’s mission against Deimos. In Norse mythology, Fenrir is a feared and powerful creature bound by the gods, with a prophecy foretelling his eventual release and battle against Odin. This classic tale of revenge has been featured in various games, including God of War: Ragnarok and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and may serve as inspiration for Rainbow Six Siege's portrayal of Fenrir.
Deimos has caused immense harm to the Rainbows, including betrayal and murder, but Fenrir has a particularly personal grudge against him. Deimos not only utilized Svensson's work to kill Fenrir's colleagues, but also attempted to trick him into providing the fear toxin formula for a vile weapon. With a potential showdown on the horizon, Fenrir is the one who rightfully deserves to exact revenge on Deimos with the utmost force. In case you want to play Rainbow Six Siege, it's accessible on various platforms such as PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
