Twitch Takes Action: ALF Channel Shut Down for Replaying Classic ’80s Sitcom

A channel dedicated to broadcasting ALF has been banned from Twitch and has returned to its home planet. Fortunately, streaming channels are helping to preserve classic television and prevent it from becoming lost media.

Classic cartoons such as G.I. Joe can now be enjoyed through marathon streams on YouTube, and forgotten sitcoms like Just Shoot Me and Newsradio are experiencing a revival with episodes being uploaded to official channels.

Twitch also sees a similar trend with channels like Hungry, which streams classic cooking shows. However, some channels have been shut down by Twitch for not being official.

ALF channel that broadcast ’80s sitcom banned by Twitch

The streaming service Twitch banned the channel Alf on January 10. The Twitch listing now leads to a page that says, "Content from this channel has been removed at the request of the copyright holder."

ALF, an iconic 1986 sitcom, was broadcasted 24/7 on ALF, an Always On channel. However, it does not seem to have any official affiliation, as there is no mention of it on other active ALF social media platforms such as the official Twitter page, @ALFforreal.

The adored sitcom tracked the adventures of ALF, whose real name is Gordon Shemway, an "alien life form" who crashed on Earth and was adopted by the Tanner family. It ran for four seasons and famously ended with a cliffhanger that was resolved in a 1996 television movie.

Since 2018, there have been plans for some type of ALF reboot. In 2023, Ryan Reynold's Maximum Effort production studio revealed it would be creating new ALF content, including a one-off YouTube marathon and a Mint Mobile commercial.
