Baldur's Gate 3's release on August 3 is a highly anticipated event for RPG fans. In light of this, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, an indie game by Summerfall Studios, has decided to delay its launch to avoid competing with Baldur's Gate 3. This tactic of postponing a game to avoid releasing alongside a larger title is not uncommon, as demonstrated by some games in late 2020 avoiding the release date of Cyberpunk 2077.
Stray Gods, created by David Gaider, the creator of Dragon Age, serves as Summerfall Studios' debut title. Initially known as Chorus: An Adventure Musical when it was announced in 2019 on the now-defunct Fig crowdfunding platform, the game underwent a name change to Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical in 2022.
The release date for Stray Gods has been changed from August 3 to August 10. Summerfall Studios, via their official Twitter account, expressed the need to give players ample opportunity to explore Stray Gods without the overshadowing anticipation for Baldur's Gate 3. Additionally, the team intends to utilize this slight delay to ensure optimal performance on all platforms.
Although one week may not be sufficient for most players to complete Baldur's Gate 3 and move on to other games, Summerfall Studios hopes that players will take advantage of the break from Baldur's Gate 3 to give Stray Gods a try before potentially beginning another playthrough.
The short delay will have to suffice for Stray Gods, as the release schedule is set to become even more crowded afterwards. Shifting the launch date closer to September would present a similar challenge, as it would need to avoid direct competition with the highly anticipated Starfield. Baldur's Gate 3 also altered its original launch date to steer clear of competing directly with Starfield. Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical will be available on August 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
