The 4.0 version update of Genshin Impact unveils the eagerly anticipated Fontaine region in Teyvat. Players will have the chance to delve into fresh mechanics, explore uncharted territories, and encounter new captivating characters. Among the initial batch of characters, players can acquire Lyney, along with Lynette and Freminet, who holds the distinction of being the first 5-star character in the Fontaine roster.
Best Lyney Team Composition
Lyney's kit in Genshin Impact is quite unique and benefits from specific elements in the team composition, similar to Nilou, but with less strict requirements. One of Lyney's passives is boosted by enemies having Pyro application, as well as having other Pyro characters in the team to further enhance this damage increase. With the right team composition, Lyney has the potential to deal significant damage with high modifiers, even without the presence of strong elemental reactions like Vaporize or Melt.Lyney fulfills the crucial role of the team's primary DPS, relying heavily on charged attacks and elemental skills to deliver focused damage to individual targets. To optimize Lyney's effectiveness, it is recommended to assemble a team consisting of two other Pyro characters and one support character of a different element. The ideal companions for Lyney in this scenario are Bennett, Xiangling, and Kazuha. With this composition, the team can consistently apply Pyro status to enemies and benefit from the maximum buffs provided by Lyney's passive ability, resulting in unparalleled damage potential. It is particularly advantageous if players possess all of Bennett and Xiangling's constellations. This team composition revolves around engaging in battles at a medium to close range, as players will need to be within proximity of enemies to effectively utilize Xiangling's Pyronado, while also remaining within Bennett and Kazuha's respective fields.
Bennett: Healer, Buffer, Battery
In this team composition, Bennett's infamous sixth constellation is utilized to its fullest potential. Despite Lyney, a bow character, being unable to infuse his normal attacks with Pyro, the entire party benefits from the Pyro DMG increase provided by Bennett's Elemental Burst field.
Additionally, by including Bennett in the party, not only will he be able to heal and provide an ATK buff, but his abilities are particularly beneficial for Lyney. As a character with high base attack and reliance on attack-scaling, Lyney can make the best use of Bennett's support. Furthermore, Bennett, when built with an optimal energy recharge rate, also serves as a valuable particle generator for the team. This aspect becomes especially crucial when considering characters like Xiangling, who typically require a reliable energy source to unleash their abilities effectively.
Xiangling: Sub-DPS, Buffer
Xiangling's role in the team is primarily to provide support with off-field AoE damage, utilizing both Guoba and Pyronado. Therefore, players should prioritize consistently activating Xiangling's Pyronado. When Xiangling reaches her sixth constellation, having Pyronado active will also grant a 15% Pyro DMG bonus, similar to Bennett's sixth constellation. Additionally, strategically placing Guoba can be beneficial, as its attacks reduce enemies' Pyro RES. However, this may require some crowd control, as Guoba does not always target the correct enemies.
Kazuha: Buffer, Crowd Control
Other Viable Pyro Characters
Kazuha greatly enhances the team's Elemental DMG by providing a substantial buff while also strategically debuffing adversaries with the power of Viridescent Venerer. Moreover, his exceptional elemental skill can effectively gather enemies together, offering immense assistance not only to Guoba but also to other character mechanics utilized within the team.
For players who haven't built Bennett and Xiangling yet or want to use them in other ways, there are several viable alternatives, especially if they prefer a defensive setup to reduce the chance of Lyney getting staggered when using charged attacks.
Thoma: Shielder, Buffer with constellation
Thoma's main responsibility is to provide protection to the team while simultaneously utilizing Pyro against foes, albeit at a slower pace compared to Xiangling's Pyronado. Moreover, with the advantage of Thoma's sixth constellation, he can enhance Lyney's charged attacks as long as the Blazing Barrier is active.
Dehya: Defensive, Sub-DPS
Dehya can be a valuable asset to players who appreciate her as a character, but struggle to find a compatible team to maximize her potential. Pairing her with Lyney can prove to be quite advantageous, as Dehya's ability to withstand interruptions and mitigate damage can be extremely useful. It is worth noting that in this particular setup, Dehya will primarily be utilized off the battlefield. Players should rely on her Elemental Skill to create a defensive field and also deal some AoE damage. On the contrary, it is advisable not to prioritize her elemental burst, as it may unintendedly decrease the team's overall damage output. This is because her burst triggers uncontrollable attacks by Dehya.
Xinyan: Shielder, Sub-DPS
Xinyan is a great choice if you're looking for a Pyro character that excels at generating shields and dealing AoE damage. Once she is ascended, she can create a powerful shield by hitting 2 or more enemies, which also applies Pyro damage to them. Her elemental burst ability inflicts high scaling AoE damage, although it is primarily Physical damage instead of Pyro damage, with the exception of the additional Pyro explosions that occur afterwards. However, her other abilities don't provide significant benefits to Lyney or the rest of the team, as they mainly focus on enhancing Physical damage.
Yanfei: Shielder, Sub-DPS, Healing
Upon unlocking Yanfei's fourth constellation, she gains the ability to shield the team, offering a unique way to utilize Yanfei in the team. Players often refer to this approach as "Tankfei." With Tankfei, players can use Yanfei in an off-field manner, employing a different build for her weapons and artifacts. In this build, Yanfei typically equips Prototype Amber, which provides team healing in addition to her own. However, it's crucial to note that for Tankfei to be a viable option in Lyney's team composition, she must be optimally built; otherwise, her performance may be inferior to that of Dehya or Xinyan.
Other Element Characters
If players desire to substitute Kazuha with another character, there exist several feasible alternatives, predominantly comprising Anemo characters for Viridescent Venerer and Pyro characters for supporting Pyro application.
Venti: Buffer, Crowd Control, Battery
Players looking for a character similar to Kazuha can also benefit from using Venti. However, instead of boosting the team's Elemental Damage, they will rely more on Venti's own Swirl damage and battery potential. But because Venti can effectively utilize the Viridescent Venerer set, players can still improve the overall damage output of their team.
In addition, as a bow user, Lyney doesn't have the same crowd control issues that Venti does when dealing with light enemies, like some melee characters do. This allows players to keep their distance from enemies if they choose to. For those who don't have access to Venti and Kazuha, Sucrose can also be considered. However, she may not bring as much value as the other two for a mono Pyro team.
Zhongli: Shielder, Buffer
Zhongli proves to be an exceptional support character for players who prefer non-Pyro or Anemo elements when paired with Lyney. In addition to offering a formidable shield, Zhongli enhances the team's Physical and Elemental resistance, making them less susceptible to disruption. Furthermore, he diminishes the opponent's resistance while the team is under the protection of his shield. This synergy becomes particularly advantageous when combined with Xiangling, as it allows for close-range combat while maintaining a defensive posture. However, it is crucial to note that the team needs to ensure a consistent application of Pyro, as Zhongli's Geo constructs can inadvertently dispel the Pyro effect on enemies through Crystallize reactions.
Lynette: Buffer, Crowd Control
For players who are eager to have both twins in their party, there's good news. It is entirely possible to do so without compromising the team's overall synergy. In this team composition, Lynette plays a pivotal role with her Elemental Burst ability. Not only does it inflict Anemo damage at regular intervals, but it also taunts enemies, giving an additional crowd control option alongside Lyney's taunt ability. Moreover, Lynette's choice of Arkhe, Ousia, provides further advantages against specific adversaries and offers solutions to puzzles specifically in the Fontaine region.
Jean: Buffer, Healer
It is worth noting that Lynette, unlike Lyney, benefits from having a diverse range of elemental types within the team composition. In addition to her ATK buff, which provides an extra advantage to Lyney, Lynette can also optimize her buffing potential by utilizing Viridescent Veneer. Moreover, since players can acquire Lynette freely, it allows them to construct a completely free-to-play party alongside Lyney, thanks to the availability of Xiangling and Bennett as well.
The team's utilization of Bennett also presents an excellent opportunity for a "Sunfire" composition, allowing Pyro to be consistently swirled while Bennett and Jean's Elemental Burst fields are active. As a result, the team will require high energy regeneration. However, by specializing Jean for this purpose, players can enjoy a unique playstyle that combines characters in a different way. Additionally, Jean's ability to utilize Viridescent Venerer enables her to debuff enemies and consistently heal the team. Furthermore, with Jean's later constellations, she can effectively serve as a Swirl Sub-DPS character.
