Certain aspects of Genshin Impact have remained stagnant since the game's launch, and players have expressed the need for a much-needed overhaul of the Starglitter shop. While the means of obtaining characters in Genshin Impact beyond the starter team of Amber, Kaeya, and Lisa have been discussed at length, many fans have simply accepted the gacha system as a norm for the genre. Although players who pursue Genshin Impact as a story adventure with occasional co-op can complete the content with starters, it can be an unsatisfactory experience.
When players obtain a duplicate character through the Wish system, that character receives a constellation upgrade. Constellations in Genshin Impact are crucial passives that can significantly enhance certain characters, such as Faruzan at C6 or Eula at C2. Due to the incredibly low chances of obtaining starters through Wishes, HoYoverse provides players with the option to purchase them outright for Masterless Starglitter, enabling those with patience (or deep pockets) to upgrade Lisa all the way to C6.

While obtaining 5-Star characters during Genshin Impact's banner events offers some protection against bad luck, 4-Star characters are not afforded the same luxury. Recently, many players have expressed frustration that it can take over 200 pulls to obtain popular characters like Kaveh during banner events in Update 3.6. This has led some fans, like reireireddit, to criticize what they see as a neglected aspect of Genshin Impact: the Starglitter shop.
As the game's roster of characters continues to grow, players feel that the systems in place since launch are no longer sufficient. The sheer number of 4-Star characters has made it much more difficult to upgrade them to C6 than it used to be. Although Genshin Impact has remained incredibly profitable for HoYoverse, fans are hoping that the developers will expand the Masterless Starglitter character rotation. For example, characters like Noelle, Xiangling, and Collei are essentially starter characters, as new players are guaranteed to obtain them early on. They offer access to unique fighting styles and elemental reactions that complement those of the Traveler.
However, the Genshin Impact community remains skeptical on whether HoYoverse will take player feedback into consideration. The company has developed a reputation for prioritizing new content, with most quality-of-life changes and innovations being implemented in Honkai: Star Rail instead. Despite the potential appreciation for the addition of old 4-Star characters to the Starglitter shop, all signs point to Update 4.0 (and beyond) featuring triple character banners, a shorter banner cycle, or some combination of the two. While this may not completely solve the problem that players have with 4-Star characters, it is expected to significantly reduce wait times for featured characters.
