One Piece volume 107 has been officially released, featuring the captivating SBS corner written by Oda himself. In this corner, Oda, as always, answers fan questions in a captivating manner, often incorporating humorous elements. However, it's worth noting that in some instances, these SBS corners have provided intriguing insights or hints. In One Piece SBS volume 107, Oda revealed an intriguing revelation about a recent battle between the Kid Pirates and the Red Hair Pirates in the New World.
Kid Vs Shanks
When Kid was first introduced in One Piece, fans immediately recognized his significance as a pirate and drew connections between him and Shanks. Theorizing about their relationship began to circulate among fans, as they noticed the striking similarities between the two characters. One notable similarity is their red hair, which is uncommon among the main pirates in One Piece. As time went on, more similarities between Kid and Shanks were revealed.
Kid acquired a facial scar, just like Shanks, known for his prominent facial scar. Additionally, both characters have lost an arm. After the timeskip, Kid was seen without an arm, and it was later revealed that he lost it during a battle with the Red Hair Pirates. Many fans speculated that Shanks was the one responsible for taking Kid's arm, at least until the Final Saga. Interestingly, Kid himself initially implied that Shanks was responsible.
How Ben Beckman Cut Off Kid's Arm
Kid had previously claimed that during his time in Udon Prison in Wano, he bravely battled against the Red Hair Pirates and lost his arm in the process. However, recent revelations in One Piece SBS volume 107 have debunked this story. It has now been confirmed that Kid never actually engaged in combat with Shanks and his crew when they first crossed paths.
In the climactic finale of the One Piece series, Kid and his formidable crew, the Kid Pirates, embarked on their journey to Elbaf, the renowned home of mighty warriors. However, their plans were abruptly interrupted when they faced a faceoff with the formidable fleet commanded by the legendary Emperor, Red-Haired Shanks. Mindful of the safety of his comrades, Shanks valiantly confronted Kid, rousing him to reconsider his aggressive intentions. As Kid prepared to unleash his firepower upon Shanks' seemingly vulnerable fleet, the Yonko chose to engage in a full-scale battle with him. Notably, the Red Hair Pirates expressed astonishment at Kid's ferocious and seemingly uncontrolled rampage. It became evident that his intense anger was specifically targeted at Ben Beckman, a significant member of Shanks' crew.
The identity of the person who took Kid's arm remains unspecified, but it is evident that Kid and Beckman share a history. It is revealed by Oda in the SBS corner that Beckman was indeed the one responsible for taking Kid's arm during their previous fight. This revelation holds significant implications, as it emphasizes that Kid failed to even reach Shanks during their encounter. Instead, he suffered a devastating loss at the hands of his subordinate, paying a hefty price for nothing.
The circumstances surrounding Beckman taking Kid's arm are unclear. It can be speculated that Kid attempted to attack the Red Force, the flagship of the Red Hair Pirates, and before Shanks could intervene, Beckman swiftly severed Kid's arm. Subsequently, the Kid Pirates presumably withdrew and treated their injured captain. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that fans will ever witness the precise events of that day. This is primarily because Kid is not a particularly pivotal character, and although fans might delve into Shanks' past, his interaction with Kid holds little significance.
Consequently, it is improbable that the altercation in which Beckman dismembered Kid's arm will be depicted in the future. In any case, fans have received confirmation that Kid and Ben Beckman engaged in a confrontation in the past, which resulted in Kid's debilitating loss of limb. Nevertheless, it is worth acknowledging that Kid experienced significant growth following this battle. He obtained higher bounties and gradually acquired enough power to challenge one of the Yonko. Kid successfully awakened the abilities of his Devil Fruit and improved his Haki. He demonstrated his strength by contending against Big Mom, a Yonko. However, it is important to note that Kid still fell short compared to Luffy, as he required assistance from Law to confront Big Mom.
The Destruction Of The Heart Pirates
In the final saga of One Piece, Kid once again tested his luck against the formidable Red Hair Pirates. Sadly, luck was not on his side. Approaching the land of Elbaf, Kid made a fateful decision to launch a devastating attack on Shanks's fleet. However, Shanks, perceiving a grim fate for his weaker allies, swiftly sprang into action to defend them. With a single strike of his sword, Shanks unleashed tremendous power, completely overpowering Kid and crushing him. In the same swift motion, Shanks also brought down Kid's loyal right-hand man, Killer. This display of Shanks's extraordinary strength left both Kid and Killer unconscious and defeated. Thus, marks the end of the Kid Pirates, at least for the near future, as they were left utterly crushed and incapacitated.
Shanks obtained their Poneglyphs, leaving the crew pleading for mercy. Shanks's allies, the Giants, retaliated by launching a devastating attack on Kid and his pirate crew, resulting in the destruction of their flagship, the Victoria Punk. Kid and his ship sank to the ocean floor, with their fate remaining unknown. Although it is likely they are alive, they are now out of the race for the One Piece since they no longer have any leads or Poneglyphs. Ultimately, not only did Kid lose his arm to Ben Beckman, but he was also ultimately defeated by the captain of the red-haired pirates himself.
One Piece is officially available for fans to read through Viz Media. The Shonen Jump and Manga Plus app allow readers to access the series for free. The upcoming chapter, One Piece 1098, is scheduled to be released on November 12, 2023.
