The Symbolic Gold Rolex: Jason Kelce's Tribute to the Philadelphia Eagles

Delve into the meaning behind Jason Kelce's choice of a $50K gold Rolex as he bids farewell to his NFL career and the Philadelphia Eagles. Learn more about the significance of this iconic timepiece at his retirement announcement.

Jason Kelce, known for his understated style, decided to make an exception when he announced his retirement from the NFL.

During his emotional press conference on Monday, March 4, the 36-year-old Kelce bid farewell to his 13-season career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite his usual simple attire, he accessorized his black tank top with a Rolex watch.

The yellow gold Rolex GMT-Master II was no ordinary accessory, especially since it was a special team commission following the Eagles’ Super Bowl win in 2018. The watch was designed with a green dial and a black ceramic bezel, paying homage to the Eagles’ team colors. And with a hefty price tag of $50,000, it truly stands out.

During an appearance on the “Green Light With Chris Long” podcast last month, Kelce shared the significance of the watch. He mentioned that Super Bowl rings aren’t enjoyable to wear, feeling a bit awkward and flashy. Kelce expressed that the rings are large and cumbersome, making it uncomfortable to wear them proudly.

He added, “They’re not comfortable. So we all decided — along with a couple other guys on the team — let’s just have Rolexes made commemorating the Super Bowl.”

Kelce shared in December 2023 that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts gave him and his teammates watches as Christmas gifts. Kelce was often seen carrying his Louis Vuitton duffel bag during the past NFL season, especially when he was traveling. He liked to pair his duffel bag with his favorite flip-flops.

Kelce's retirement decision was a heartfelt moment. During his speech, he expressed his love for the sport and his loyalty to the team he played for his entire career.

Reflecting on his thirteen years in Philadelphia, Kelce shared a mix of highs and lows before delving into some of his fondest memories as the Eagles' center.

The athlete expressed gratitude towards all his previous coaches, feeling fortunate to have had the opportunity to play under their guidance. Jason reminisced about getting drafted into the NFL and even mentioned his mother, Donna Kelce, as a role model for parents who make sacrifices for their children.

Jason reminisced about the Eagles' tough Super Bowl defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023. He shared a heartfelt memory of his close connection with his brother Travis Kelce.

Reflecting on his time in the "city of brotherly love," Jason remarked, "It feels like fate that my career blossomed here. I cherish that bond." He also expressed gratitude for his supportive wife, Kylie Kelce, recalling how they first met through Tinder.

“So, this all brings us here to today,” he concluded. “Where I announce that I am retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.”
