Michael Allio declined the opportunity to be the lead for season 26 of The Bachelor, forfeiting what could have been the show's largest paycheck ever. On a recent episode of the "She's All Bach" podcast, the 39-year-old expressed his fear and apprehension towards the role, stating that it felt akin to being trapped in a prison.
The single father, who left Katie Thurston's season of The Bachelorette in 2021 and found love with Danielle Maltby on Bachelor in Paradise season 8, revealed that while the show was accommodating to his son James, he ultimately decided he wasn't the right fit for the role. Allio, who became a father to James with his late wife Laura Ritter-Allio in 2016, expressed that he didn't believe he could excel as the Bachelor lead, as managing multiple relationships would be challenging for him. He believed he would quickly know who he wanted to spend time with within the first five days.
Allio was concerned about the impact that becoming the Bachelor would have on his son. Eventually, the ABC star decided to leave Thurston's season to prioritize the well-being of his child, whose mother passed away in 2019. "I don't want to add an unnecessary complication to our already complex lives," Allio explained. Consequently, he had to let go of a substantial paycheck.
He described the offer as incredibly substantial, although I am unable to disclose the exact figures. It surpassed any other offer I had ever come across in terms of magnitude. While the financial aspect was undoubtedly appealing, I am not driven solely by money. If I am not genuinely interested in undertaking a task or opportunity, no amount of money could persuade or compel me to do so.
Michael Allio declined an opportunity to be on The Bachelor, despite the disappointment it caused the producers. Ultimately, Clayton Echard was chosen and went on to develop a relationship with contestant Susie Evans, although they later broke up in September 2022.
Allio is currently dealing with the challenges of managing his widely talked about relationship with Maltby, who is 37 years old.
"I can confidently say that being in a public relationship is not enjoyable," he shared during a podcast, emphasizing their deep love for each other. However, he chose not to comment on rumors regarding their separation. "Danielle and I both believe that our relationship should only involve the two of us. Therefore, we believe that maintaining privacy is the best way to ensure a healthy connection."
