The Ideal Fit: Anne Hathaway's Untapped Potential in Spider-Man 4

Anne Hathaway's unrealized role in Spider-Man 4 was nothing short of perfection, leaving fans yearning for what could have been in this ill-fated movie that never saw the light of day

The long-awaited Spider-Man 4 movie never came to fruition, but new reports indicate that Anne Hathaway was in talks for a "perfect" role in the film. Anne Hathaway, known for her diverse roles in The Devil Wears Prada, Ocean’s 8, and most recently Eileen, is celebrated for her versatility as an actress.

She has already showcased her superhero potential by portraying Catwoman in the 2012 movie The Dark Knight Rises. However, she was initially set to play a different role in Spider-Man 4, leaving fans feeling like they missed out on something special.

Anne Hathaway’s scrapped Spider-Man 4 role was perfect

According to a report from Variety, Anne Hathaway was originally cast in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 but was subsequently scrapped.

“If that had been made, I'm not sure if I would have even been in consideration for Dark Knight Rises. Maybe Christopher Nolan would have said, 'No, she's busy in another universe,'" Hathaway noted. The article claims that Hathaway was cast in Spider-Man 4 as Black Cat, but never got to read a complete script. This is in the context of Hathaway's version of Barbie also not being chosen, which she now sees as a positive, citing Robbie's as the "best possible version."

One fan on X/Twitter commented, "If Spiderman 4 happened, he definitely would've left MJ for her." Another fan added, "We were robbed." A third user chimed in, "We could have had her as Catwoman and Black Cat???" And a fourth user summed up, "Sony really ruined what could've been the best Spiderman movie."

Nevertheless, a few fans wasted no time in critiquing Hathaway's previous portrayal of Catwoman as a point of reference for what could have been. "I hope her Black Cat would be an improvement over her Catwoman," remarked one fan. "I'm grateful she wasn't... because a director like Nolan would never have chosen her for the more well-known Catwoman role," added another.

As a Gen Z netizen, I'm fascinated by the concept of Anne Hathaway's potential role in Spider-Man 4. The idea of her portraying Black Cat is intriguing, and it's a shame that the movie never materialized. Hathaway's versatility as an actress makes me believe that she would have brought a unique interpretation to the character. It's exciting to imagine the possibilities of what could have been.

On the other hand, I can't help but feel a sense of disappointment that we never got to see Hathaway's take on Black Cat. The fan reactions on X/Twitter highlight the anticipation and excitement surrounding her potential involvement in the movie. It's clear that many fans would have welcomed her portrayal of the character. While it's true that her previous portrayal of Catwoman received mixed reviews, I believe that she would have brought a fresh perspective to Black Cat, showcasing her range as an actress.
