Tom Holland has made it clear that he will only return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Spider-Man 4 under a difficult condition. Since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the beloved superhero has been absent from the MCU. However, there has been ongoing development on the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4 by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios for over a year now. Although Holland has confirmed that he has been discussing his return to the MCU, he is cautious about reprising the role. In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Holland shared that unless Spider-Man 4 can surpass the success of No Way Home, he would not be willing to don the web-slinging suit once again, and would prefer to leave Peter Parker to "swing off into the sunset."

Should Spider-Man 4 Be Peter Parker's Final MCU Story?

It remains uncertain whether Holland has committed to a new contract with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, as he seems to be testing the waters for Spider-Man 4. However, Holland's recent statement does raise the question of whether Spider-Man 4 should be considered as Peter's finale in the MCU. Holland makes a valid point that the bar has been set high by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which explored the multiverse and pushed the boundaries of what sequels can achieve in terms of Peter's storyline.

It's important for Spider-Man 4 to come to fruition, especially considering the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home which leaves Peter alone. The MCU should provide a proper resolution to Peter's story so he isn't left isolated in the world. If Sony and Marvel can't come up with a solid idea for a sequel trilogy, it could be a good opportunity to introduce Miles Morales in a live-action film, with Sony already exploring options for his own solo movie. Spider-Man 4 could allow Holland to conclude his time in the MCU and pave the way for Miles to continue the Spider-Man legacy.
