Tom Holland's fans are eagerly awaiting news about his potential return as Spider-Man in Spider-Man 4. While the actor has been involved in development meetings, he has not revealed any details about whether he will suit up once again. However, he has recently shared his concerns and reservations about reprising the role.
Holland recently disclosed his involvement in the development meetings for Spider-Man 4, where he confirmed the presence of key figures such as Pascal and Marvel boss Kevin Feige. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Spider-Man star shared that initially, the meetings revolved around questioning the need to continue the journey. "The first few meetings were about, 'Why would we do this again?' And I think we found the reason why. I'm genuinely thrilled with our current creative direction," Holland said, validating the existence of a compelling motive to continue the saga. Feige has also previously commented on Spider-Man 4's storyline, revealing that it has already begun to take shape.
Despite having a reason to continue, not everyone is on board. Holland, who plays the hero, has expressed his apprehension about carrying on. He has concerns about the stigma attached to the fourth installment of popular franchises. Holland feels that the first franchise was a huge success, and part of him wants to leave with pride and hand over the reigns to the next fortunate individual who gets to portray this character. At present, there are no discussions about replacing Holland in future Spider-Man movies. However, what will be decided in these development meetings remains uncertain.
It appears that fans will have to wait for some time before receiving more updates about the production of the film. This is because the Spider-Man 4 meetings are currently on hold. Holland has previously disclosed that due to the Writers Guild of America strike, the discussions for Spider-Man 4 have been paused in support of the writers. Therefore, even though the team has a reason to continue, they will not progress until the strike comes to an end.
Spider-Man 4 is currently in development at Sony Pictures.
