Star Wars has heavily followed in Marvel's footsteps, releasing an abundance of content in recent years. While The Mandalorian was a great start in 2020, the market has become oversaturated with Star Wars content, resulting in mixed receptions such as the disappointingly average show, The Book of Boba Fett. However, despite this state of affairs, fans remain hopeful that the upcoming Ahsoka show can revive the franchise from its mediocrity.
Scheduled for release on August 23, 2023, Ahsoka is another Star Wars show on Disney+, developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Based on the trailers, it appears that Ahsoka will pay homage to fans while serving as a continuation of Filoni's animated series Star Wars Rebels. Some speculate that the show's fan service may even venture beyond the canon universe, potentially reintroducing the beloved Legends character, Starkiller.
The Ahsoka Show Starkiller Fan Theory Explained
Starkiller, originally introduced in 2008's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as Darth Vader's apprentice, gained popularity among fans but has been limited to the non-canon Legends universe due to his only appearances in game format. However, a fan theory suggests that he may finally make his canon debut in the upcoming Ahsoka show. In the trailers for the show, Ahsoka confronts a group of Dark Side users, one of whom conceals their face with a medieval-like mask and wields a spinning lightsaber associated with the Inquisitors. This has led to speculation that this masked Inquisitor is actually Starkiller, portrayed by Sam Witwer in live-action.
Many times, Star Wars fans have set themselves up for disappointment by believing wild fan theories, but there may be something to this new one. And all starts with the character's name, which has just been revealed to be Marrok, which is not too far off from Marek, as in Galen Marek, Starkiller's birth name. Exciting Possibilities Arise with the Revelation of Marrok's Name
The Likelihood of Starkiller Showing Up in Ahsoka
Starkiller has garnered immense support from fans who passionately advocate for his canonization, a sentiment that is no doubt recognized by Disney and Lucasfilm. Recent trends in the Star Wars franchise towards incorporating more Legends content into the official canon, such as the appearances of Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels and the upcoming Ahsoka show, increase the likelihood of Starkiller making an appearance. While Sam Witwer has not portrayed Starkiller since 2010, he has continued to lend his voice to various characters in the Star Wars universe, most notably as Darth Maul in The Clone Wars. This suggests that he would likely be open to reprising the role of Starkiller if approached by Disney.
However, a major obstacle is that the Ahsoka show is already taking on a significant workload, possibly exceeding its capacity. The introduction of Thrawn in live-action form in Ahsoka, along with the inclusion of the Star Wars Rebels team, amounts to a substantial amount of fan service right from the start. Including Starkiller in the equation may be pushing the boundaries too much for the show.
The release date for Star Wars: Ahsoka on Disney Plus is set for August 23, 2023.
