The intricately woven storytelling of One Piece reaches its climax in its flashbacks, connecting the current narrative with past subplots. The emotional backstory of Bartholomew Kuma and Jewelry Bonney is no exception, shedding light on several pivotal episodes.
While the flashback answered many questions, it also gave rise to new mysteries, particularly in the latest chapter. Set for official release on Monday, December 11, 2023, One Piece 1101 will delve deeper into Bonney's beginnings as a pirate, continuing the journey into the past.
Thanks to a Paramecia Devil Fruit, Bonney has the ability to control the aging process, giving her the power to hinder her enemies and keep her true age secret. However, a crucial scene in One Piece chapter 1101 suggests that there is more to Bonney's abilities than previously thought, hinting at surprising potential. Note: This article contains significant spoilers from the One Piece manga up to chapter 1101.
Bonney’s Age-Age Fruit turns imagination into reality like Nika in One Piece 1101

Compelled by Saint Saturn's manipulation, Kuma agreed to fulfill all of the former's demands, in exchange for Vegapunk's assistance in curing Bonney's illness. Oblivious to the difficult terms Kuma had to endure, Bonney underwent her treatment, spending six months in Egghead alongside Kuma, Vegapunk, Sentomaru, and Admiral Kizaru.
After undergoing surgery, Bonney was sent to Sorbet Kingdom for the rest of the year to recover, under the watchful eye of Alpha, a CP8 agent disguised as a nurse. On her tenth birthday, Sorbet's queen, Conney, made a plan to help Bonney escape from the country. Despite their efforts, Alpha caught wind of the escape attempt and used Geppo to chase after Bonney's ship. During this chase, Bonney recalled a conversation with Kuma about Nika, a legendary figure in the lineage of Buccaneers to which Kuma belonged.
Clapp informed Kuma that Nika was a legendary fighter who battled to emancipate the enslaved and would one day come back to free all the downtrodden. Kuma relayed the same tale to Bonney, emphasizing that Nika possessed a rubber-like body and the ability to fight in any manner he desired.
Using the Age-Age Fruit, Bonney executed the Distorted Future technique, enabling her to transform into a potential future version of herself. According to Kuma, Nika saw herself as the legendary "Sun God" and manifested an enlarged arm.
Empowered by her increased strength, Bonney delivered a powerful punch to Alpha, ultimately defeating her. As a result, the ten-year-old Bonney and her allies fled from Sorbet and embarked on their pirate adventures.

Bonney used her Devil Fruit powers to hide her true age and appearance, pretending to be a woman in her twenties. Her skills were impressive, leading to her becoming renowned as one of the Eleven Supernovas from the Worst Generation, a group of powerful rookie pirates. Any pirate with a bounty exceeding 100 million berries before entering the New World is considered a Supernova, but the eleven rookies who arrived at Sabaody before the Paramount War gained even more notoriety as part of the Worst Generation.

The Age-Age Fruit was crucial to Bonney's success as a pirate, as it allowed her to rival much older and more experienced individuals. With the ability to manipulate the aging process of organic and inorganic matter by simply touching the target, she was able to level the playing field.
However, when applied to living organisms, the manipulation of age only has a temporary effect. Those affected by Bonney's Devil Fruit abilities will undergo a rapid and immediate rejuvenation, ultimately transforming into a vulnerable child or aging into a frail elder.

Bonney has the ability to age objects, such as corroding and breaking metallic items, and can also alter her own age for different purposes. In addition, the Distorted Future technique, highlighted in One Piece 1101, is not new and has been shown in the manga before. It should be noted that Bonney can use this technique on herself and others.
Bonney’s hax is substantial, and time will only make her stronger
In chapter 1072 of One Piece, Bonney used a technique to transform herself into an older version with a strong, muscular physique resembling that of a Buccaneer. Although initially assumed to be a reference to Bonney’s relationship with Kuma, the most recent chapter suggests that there is a deeper significance to her ability.
Bonney’s ability not only transformed her into a different version of herself but also gave her the ability to mimic one of Nika’s abilities, the same power that Luffy uses to make his body flexible like rubber.
The spoilers suggest that Bonney's attack was similar to Luffy's Gear 3, but upon closer inspection, it appears to be more like the Gear 5 transformation. Unlike Gear 3, which only inflates the bone and enlarges the arm, Gear 5 thickens the entire arm by boosting the muscles rather than the bones.
In Bonney's case, her arm is noticeably expanded, showing veins, similar to Luffy's appearance in Gear 5. Currently, no explanation has been given for this, but when Luffy enlarges his muscles in Gear 5, his body takes on the true appearance of a Buccaneer.
The World Government made every effort to prevent Luffy from unleashing the true power of the Nika-Nika Fruit. Given the institution's animosity towards the Buccaneers, it is conceivable that the legendary Joy Boy, to whom Luffy is hinted to be the reincarnation, belonged to the nearly extinct race.
Nevertheless, Bonney's Distorted Future technique appears to be a unique method that presents new possibilities for the Age-Age Fruit's capabilities. Bonney effectively turned her imagination into reality by simply willing it to happen. Her actions seem to align with Vegapunk's theory about the origin of Devil Fruits, which he believed to be the physical manifestation of people's deepest desires. In fact, Bonney was able to materialize her desires.

This might appear to be a common trait of all Devil Fruits, but that is only applicable to the specific powers of the fruit. In Bonney's situation, it appeared to be something that exceeded the known potential of the Age-Age Fruit.
One might wonder to what degree Bonney can mimic the traits and abilities of other characters. Some fans have suggested that she could transform into a future version of herself, envisioning herself as strong enough to become Pirate King. This imaginative transformation could make her more powerful than her opponent, as seen in One Piece 1099. However, there may be limits to the temporary effects of Bonney's Devil Fruit abilities.

Prior to the timeskip, Bonney and her allies were swiftly overpowered and taken captive by the Blackbeard Pirates. Even though he witnessed her combat skills, Teach found them unimpressive and considered Bonney too feeble to be a part of his crew.
In light of recent events, it's understandable that Bonney was swiftly defeated by Saturn, especially considering that even a fighter as skilled as Sanji was unable to overcome the formidable Warrior God of Science and Defense.
Comparing their performances against Kizaru, it appeared that she was weaker than Sentomaru. Before being defeated, Sentomaru managed to block an attack and even land a hit, albeit unsuccessful, on the Admiral. In the end, both Sentomaru and Bonney were defeated, but Bonney was easily overwhelmed.
