Teen Mom's Bentley Edwards Reveals Surprising Twist in Relationship With Incarcerated Dad Ryan

Bentley Edwards, Maci Bookout's 14-year-old son, candidly discusses his evolving bond with dad Ryan Edwards during his time in jail and rehab on the latest episode of 'Teen Mom: The Next Chapter'

Ryan Edwards has faced challenges in his relationship with his son Bentley over the years. However, there has been a gradual effort to mend their bond. In a recent episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, which aired on Wednesday, October 4, 14-year-old Bentley opened up to his mother, Maci Bookout, about the current status of his relationship with his father. It is worth noting that during the filming of the episode, Ryan was in jail for harassing his wife, Mackenzie Edwards. He was awaiting the decision on his furlough request to attend rehab, which was eventually granted.

“Do you think there’s more access to a relationship now than there was before?” Maci asked Bentley.

“Less complicated, I guess, I don’t know,” the teen replied.

“Less of a chore? Less heavy?” Maci questioned, to which Bentley nodded.

“Feels that way for me too,” she replied.

Maci, in an exclusive interview with We in July, revealed that despite being in jail at the time, Ryan had been significantly more consistent in showing up and communicating with Bentley than ever before, which was truly remarkable. On Wednesday's episode, during their difficult mother-son conversation, Bentley managed to inject some humor into the discussion.

Maci praised Bentley, sharing, "I'm proud of you, buddy. You're doing great." Bentley, Maci's eldest son, responded with a witty remark, saying, "Yeah, you did a great job [raising me]," while Maci chuckled and he playfully winked at the camera.

Maci subsequently had a conversation with Taylor regarding the possibility of attending Ryan's court hearing.

Expressing remorse, she admitted, "I deeply regret how I treated him during his struggle with addiction. It was as if I couldn't see him as a person, and it has weighed heavily on me."

Despite not endorsing all of Ryan's choices, Maci affirmed her decision to be there for him, offering moral support.

"Being there for him not only demonstrates my unwavering support, but also signifies that I acknowledge the influential role I play in the dynamic between Bentley and Ryan," Maci expressed.

After being arrested for a DUI and simple possession of a controlled substance, Ryan commenced his jail sentence in April — his third arrest this year. He was subsequently released for rehabilitation in July. A month later, Bentley posted an Instagram photo featuring himself, Ryan, Taylor, and Ryan's father, Larry Edwards, enjoying a game of golf together. The caption read, "Family."

The Teen Mom: The Next Chapter reunion airs on MTV Wednesday, October 11, at 8 p.m. ET.
