Briana DeJesus’ sister was willing to adopt Briana’s 6-year-old daughter — until a lawyer explained why it couldn’t work.

In the Wednesday, September 27 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Briana, 29, approached her sister, Brittany DeJesus, 31, with a question. She asked Brittany if she would be willing to adopt Stella due to the ongoing coparenting issues with Stella's father, Luis Hernandez. Briana explained to Brittany and their mother, Roxanne DeJesus, that Luis had been absent, recalling a distressing incident where Stella cried upon his arrival at a daddy-daughter dance, causing Briana to have to pick her up. Briana sought to explore the possibility of a close relative, such as Brittany, adopting Stella.

Roxanne urged Briana to give Luis a fair chance, while Brittany immediately agreed without hesitation. "Ever since the day she had kids, Briana always said that if anything were to happen to her, I would take care of the children," Brittany remarked. "You didn't even need to ask me. I could have woken up tomorrow and you would have been like, 'You're a mother,' and I would have said, 'Okay.' That's a given."

In addition to her 12-year-old daughter Nova, whom she shares with her ex Devoin Austin, Briana's nieces are the closest thing Brittany has to her own children, both spiritually and emotionally, she expressed.

When explaining the situation to her attorneys, however, Briana’s plan got shut down.

"One of the attorneys provided guidance to the MTV personality regarding the concept of 'second parent adoption,' which typically involves a situation where a family member, other than a married couple, steps in to legally adopt the child. However, it appears that the courts have currently hindered this option. Therefore, considering the present circumstances, we do not believe that pursuing this avenue would be feasible," the attorney communicated to Briana as she wiped away her tears.

After Briana acknowledged that the best course of action for her younger daughter, Stella, is to maintain the current situation, he explained that they do not intend to guide her in a direction that would not be beneficial for Stella.
