Miss Benny alleges that a member of the main cast of Fuller House attempted to have her character removed, but Candace Cameron-Bure refutes the accusation. Miss Benny played Casey, Kimmy's first high school intern, and although her character had potential, she only appeared in a few episodes before disappearing from the Full House spinoff. Additionally, Casey was the first openly-gay character in Fuller House. Miss Benny shares her experience on her official TikTok account and discloses that one of the main cast members tried to get her role eliminated. While Cameron-Bure does not mention any names in her video, she releases a statement to Entertainment Tonight denying the allegations. Read their statements below:
Miss Benny, who played Casey, the first gay character on the Full House franchise, recalled being warned by the writers and studio about a person who allegedly wanted to have the character removed and not have a queer character on the show. Miss Benny was also cautioned about the possibility of being targeted by this person's fan base. Despite working on the show for two weeks straight, Miss Benny only had a conversation with one of the Tanner sisters.
Cameron-Bure clarified that she never asked for Miss Benny's character to be removed from Fuller House and did not oppose having queer characters on the show. She acknowledged Miss Benny's portrayal of 'Casey' and mentioned that they didn't have any scenes together, so they didn't have much opportunity to talk during filming. Cameron-Bure wished Miss Benny the best.
Was Miss Benny Referring To Candace Cameron-Bure In Her Fuller House Video?
As mentioned earlier, Miss Benny does not mention any names in her social media post, but her comment about "One of the Tanner sisters" narrows down the actors involved. Since Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen did not return as Michelle in the Full House spin-off, she can only be referring to either Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie Tanner, or Cameron-Bure, who portrayed DJ Tanner. Between the two, Sweetin has been very vocal about her support for the LGBTQIA community, making her the more likely candidate.
It is worth mentioning that there were rumors in the past about conflicts between Cameron-Bure and Sweetin due to their differing views on same-sex marriage. However, neither party has commented on this matter. While they appeared together publicly during the '90s Con at Hartford, they had minimal interaction with each other. Interestingly, they were not asked about the rumors during that event.
There is another reunion of Fuller House planned for later this year, raising questions about whether this issue will be addressed. Cameron-Bure's denial statement may not bring an end to this controversy. If more individuals share similar experiences or if Miss Benny creates a follow-up video, it could continue to have an impact on both the DJ actor and the show as a whole.
