Candace Cameron Bure has denied allegations of her involvement in attempting to remove Miss Benny, who played a queer character on Fuller House, from the Netflix series. In a statement to TVLine on July 6, the 47-year-old actress clarified that she never requested for Miss Benny's character to be written out and did not influence the show's writers, producers, or studio executives to exclude queer characters. Emphasizing Fuller House's inclusion of diverse characters, Cameron Bure acknowledged Miss Benny's portrayal of 'Casey' and expressed good wishes for her future endeavors, despite not having shared any scenes together or having had many conversations on set.

Cameron Bure's response comes after Miss Benny, 24, uploaded a TikTok video accusing the actress of trying to have them removed from the show because their character, Casey, is gay.

"In one of the Tanner sisters, there is a clear lack of support for the LGBTQ+ community," Miss Benny stated in the video on Thursday. "I remember being called in by the writers and the studio, who expressed concerns about this individual's alleged attempts to remove the character and prevent the inclusion of a queer character on the show."

Cameron Bure starred in all five seasons of Fuller House as DJ Tanner, reprising her role from the popular '90s show, Full House. Miss Benny, on the other hand, appeared in two episodes of season 4 as Casey, notably as the platonic date of Soni Bringas, who played Ramona Gibler on the show.

While Miss Benny did not mention Cameron Bure by name, they did use her hashtag and expressed concern about being targeted by her fanbase. They found it unbelievable that an adult would target a teenage actor for making harmless jokes about wearing a scarf.

"Despite spending two straight weeks working on the show every day, my interactions have been limited to just one of the Tanner sisters," they expounded.

Miss Benny ended their video by expressing the positive aspects of their time on Fuller House. They highlighted the camaraderie with their fellow actors who were open to engaging with them. Additionally, they mentioned that this opportunity led to their role in Netflix's Glamourous, which debuted recently.

Reflecting on their experience, Miss Benny acknowledged that everything occurs for a purpose. However, they couldn't help but be astounded by the ongoing targeting and need for advocacy that queer individuals, particularly young adults and children, face against adults.

In November 2022, Cameron Bure made headlines as she explained her decision to leave Hallmark and join Great American Media. She expressed her desire to focus on storytelling that holds greater meaning, purpose, and depth, as she spoke with The Wall Street Journal's WSJ. Magazine. According to Cameron Bure, she was drawn to Great American Family because of their Christian values and their dedication to promoting faith-based programming and wholesome family entertainment.

When asked about the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ movies in their programming, Cameron Bure stated, "I believe Great American Family will prioritize traditional marriage."

After receiving backlash for her controversial remarks, Cameron Bure defended herself in a statement later that month, claiming that she has “great love and respect for all people.”
