Scheana Shay isn’t placing blame after Carl Radke received backlash for how he called off his engagement to Lindsay Hubbard.
"I am not fully aware of the complete details regarding the situation between Carl and Lindsay. I have had conversations with both of them, but only have fragments of information. However, I will be having a chance to meet with both of them at BravoCon," stated Shay, 37, on the November 3 episode of her podcast "Scheananigans."
Shay, a star of Vanderpump Rules, expressed understanding and compassion for Radke's choice to separate prior to the wedding ceremony.
"Breaking off an engagement is undoubtedly a challenging and unpleasant ordeal. It is a situation nobody desires to find themselves in," Shay expressed, emphasizing the difficulty of the situation. "I have observed Carl's behavior towards Lindsay, and he has refrained from speaking negatively about her. Instead, he has chosen to maintain a low profile and endure the criticism thrown at him."
The turbulent journey of Radke, 38, and Hubbard, as depicted on the reality show Summer House since its debut in 2017, has been well-documented. Although they briefly dated during season 4, they decided to transition to a friendship. However, they reignited their romantic relationship towards the end of season 6, leading to Radke's proposal in 2022, a year later.
In August, it was confirmed that Radke had called off their engagement before their scheduled November wedding. Both parties released individual statements regarding the cancellation of their ceremony, wherein Radke addressed attendees in a letter stating that Hubbard, 37, was deeply affected by his choice. During a discussion about the matter on her podcast, Shay expressed her support for Radke's decision to end the relationship.
On Friday, she commended him for ending the relationship before getting married if he felt it wasn't right. She expressed empathy for Lindsay and Carl, acknowledging that they are both experiencing pain. The breakup happened just a few months before their planned destination wedding, leaving Lindsay undoubtedly devastated. Shay mentioned that she believes the split is ultimately beneficial for both Radke and Hubbard, as they can find happiness once they heal from the heartbreak. Despite not knowing the complete story, Shay stated that she has no preference and sends love to both parties involved.
Hubbard, on the other hand, has recently opened up about her experience dealing with the highly publicized breakup.
In the latest issue of Us, she candidly shared, "Like any couple, we had our fair share of arguments, but nothing that would have been so severe to cause a breakup. It was during the last two weeks of summer when his attitude and behavior suddenly shifted. I was taken aback by the sudden hostility and aggression he displayed, which left me feeling confused."
Hubbard expressed her shock and betrayal when Radke agreed to have their breakup filmed, calling the experience utterly embarrassing. She felt that if this conversation had taken place during the regular filming period over the summer, it would have been easier to handle. However, she found it unsettling that Radke contacted the producers, arranged for cameras to be present, and manipulated her into sitting down with him for the purpose of breaking up after they had already finished filming. To her dismay, the news of their split spread worldwide within just half an hour.
