Princess Kate and her friend Roger Federer came together once again to watch the opening match at Wimbledon on Tuesday, July 4.
Looking radiant at the esteemed British tennis tournament, the 41-year-old Princess of Wales made a stylish impression in a mint green blazer as she joined the eight-time Wimbledon champion, also 41, in the Royal Box.
Kate and Federer recently joined forces for a spontaneous tennis match prior to the championship. Last month, they were accompanied by local ball boys and girls to showcase their prowess on the court, after Federer's retirement from professional tennis.
In a post on their respective Instagram accounts, Kate and Federer hailed the ball boys and girls as the unsung heroes of Wimbledon. Alongside a video of their time on the court in June, they expressed their admiration for the skill and dedication of these individuals, acknowledging that they even learned a few things from them.
Kate, who has three kids - Prince George (9), Princess Charlotte (8), and Prince Louis (5) - with her husband Prince William, expressed her admiration for the young athletes preparing for Wimbledon's prestigious event. In a recently released YouTube clip, she mentioned being amazed by their rigorous training, unwavering dedication, and the meticulous effort put into ensuring the success of the players on the big day at Wimbledon. Witnessing all of this behind the scenes left a lasting impression on the royal.
While playing against Federer, Kate amazed the tennis legend by effortlessly catching the ball with a single hand. "Can you actually do that?" he inquired of a ball girl, only for the duchess to interject, "Hold on, can you actually do that? It's an interesting question."
Federer mentioned that Australian players "would catch" the ball, but such a move is not permitted according to Wimbledon regulations.
"Yeah, you're not supposed to catch it," the ball girl named Mollie clarified to the duo. "You're supposed to let it bounce first and then catch it, but that was a good catch."
Prior to becoming a patron of the organization in May 2016, Kate had publicly expressed her fondness for the sport and for Federer. (As a mother of three, she also holds the position of patron for the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, as well as for the Rugby Football League and Rugby Football Union.)
Kate revealed in the 2017 BBC One documentary Sue Barker: Our Wimbledon that Roger is the object of affection for her mother. She believes that her mother wouldn't be bothered by her statement, and suspects that Roger himself is aware of this. Kate's earliest tennis idols were Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Goran Ivanisevic, and Steffi Graf. Wimbledon serves as an inspiration for young individuals, including Kate. Whenever the tournament is on, she finds herself thinking that she could achieve the same level of success and picks up her tennis racket. However, she admits that her results have not been as impressive. Check out the pictures from Kate's recent outing below.
