Princess Kate surprises fans at Wimbledon as she playfully catches a tennis ball during a match with Roger Federer A sporty and charismatic moment between the two icons

Princess Kate joined forces with tennis star Roger Federer for an unexpected tennis match prior to the prestigious Wimbledon championship. In a video posted on YouTube by the tournament organizers on Saturday, June 24, the 41-year-old Princess met up with the 41-year-old Federer on the court. Accompanied by local ball boys and girls, they were treated to a display of some impressive skills.

Later on Saturday, a joint post on Kate and the tennis icon's Instagram account referred to the Ball Boys and Girls at Wimbledon as the unsung heroes of the tournament. The post expressed admiration for their skill and dedication in making The Championships a truly special event. Kate, who currently serves as the patron of the Wimbledon Tennis Club, further showcased her own abilities by effortlessly catching the ball with one hand during one of Federer's serves.

"Is that permissible?" he questioned the ball girl, Mollie, as the Duchess of Cornwall interjected, "Wait, is that even allowed?" she inquired. "That's an excellent question."

In response, Federer noted that in Australia, "they would apprehend it," but it is not sanctioned at Wimbledon.

"Yeah, the objective is not to catch it," Mollie informed the duo. "You should let it bounce and then catch it, but great catch."

Commencing on Wednesday, July 3, the England stadium will host the annual tennis championships. The event will span a duration of nearly two weeks, culminating on Sunday, July 16.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who has three children with husband Prince William, displayed her athletic side during a pre-tournament event. She sported a high ponytail with her tennis whites and even practiced some training exercises, tossing tennis balls before picking up a racket herself.

Having watched numerous Wimbledon matches from the royal box, including the 2022 contest where she accompanied her son Prince George, Kate became the patron of the organization in May 2016, taking over from Queen Elizabeth II. She also holds the role of patron for the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

In the June 2017 BBC One documentary "Sue Barker: Our Wimbledon," Kate expressed her admiration for Federer, revealing that she has been a fan of the sport and of him since childhood. "Roger is my mother's ultimate crush," Kate enthusiastically shared. "I don't think she would be upset with me for saying that. And I'm sure he's aware of it too."

She expressed her admiration, saying, "I was deeply impressed by the talents of [Andre] Agassi, [Pete] Sampras, [Goran] Ivanisevic, and Steffi Graf. These were my initial recollections. ... Wimbledon serves as a source of inspiration for young individuals, and I include myself in that category. Whenever Wimbledon is broadcasted, I am motivated to pick up my racket and think, 'Yes, I can achieve the same.' However, I cannot replicate their level of success."

Princess Kate Accidentally Catches Tennis Ball With Her Hands During Roger Federer Match: 'Are You Allowed to Do That?'

Princess Kate teamed up with Roger Federer for an impromptu tennis match ahead of the Wimbledon championship.

On Saturday, June 24, the Princess of Wales, aged 41, met with Federer, also aged 41, on the tennis court. The tennis competition shared a YouTube video of their encounter. Accompanied by local ball boys and girls, the duo were entertained with a display of tricks. Later, on Saturday, a joint post on Kate and the tennis icon's Instagram account acknowledged the importance of the "unsung heroes of Wimbledon." The post praised the skill and dedication of the Ball Boys and Girls and admitted they had even learned a few things from them.

In a moment of Federer's serve, Kate, the current patron of the Wimbledon Tennis Club, deftly caught the ball with one hand. Curious about the rules, he turned to ball girl Mollie and questioned, "Are you allowed to do that?" The Duchess of Cornwall joined the conversation, adding, "Oh wait, are you allowed to do that? That's an interesting question."

Federer, on the other hand, highlighted that in Australia, "they would catch it," but the same rule does not apply at Wimbledon.

"Yeah, technically you're not supposed to catch it," Mollie informed them. "The proper way is to let it bounce first and then catch it, but impressive catch nonetheless."

The England stadium is set to host the annual tennis championships, starting on Wednesday, July 3 and concluding on Sunday, July 16. The Duchess of Cambridge, who has three children with Prince William, displayed her athletic side during a pre-tournament event. She sported a high ponytail and tennis whites, and even engaged in some training exercises by tossing tennis balls before taking up a racket of her own.

Kate, who has witnessed numerous Wimbledon matches from the royal box, including the 2022 tournament in which she accompanied her son Prince George, assumed the role of patron for the organization in May 2016, taking over from Queen Elizabeth II. Additionally, she holds the position of patron for the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Kate's affinity for tennis, particularly for Federer, predates her involvement as a patron.

In the June 2017 BBC One documentary titled "Sue Barker: Our Wimbledon," Kate enthusiastically declared that Roger is her mother's true love. Kate believes her mother won't mind her revealing this, as she believes Roger is already aware of it.

She went on to share her earliest memories of being captivated by tennis players like Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Goran Ivanisevic, and Steffi Graf. These players inspired her as a young person, including herself. Whenever Wimbledon is on, Kate finds herself thinking that she too can pick up a racket and achieve similar greatness. However, she admits that unfortunately, she hasn't achieved the same level of success.
