Tina Brown, a journalist and author of The Diana Chronicles, believes that the future of the monarchy depends on Princess Kate Middleton. In an opinion piece for The New York Times on March 25, Brown expressed that Catherine is the second most beloved member of the royal family, following William. Brown emphasized that the monarchy's fate is closely tied to her.

Brown shared his thoughts weeks after rumors about Kate's absence from the public eye due to a scheduled medical procedure. The Princess of Wales, 42, revealed on March 22 that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy, which was a surprise to her.

According to a source, Kate had gone in for abdominal surgery only to discover that she had cancer.

One month before Kate was diagnosed, King Charles III also received a cancer diagnosis. He, at the age of 75, reduced his workload in February. Queen Camilla took over some of his public engagements, such as a recent trip to Northern Ireland.

Brown noted in March that help from other family members is scarce. However, she mentioned Charles' sister, Princess Anne, and Camilla as exceptions. The slimmed-down monarchy that Charles always promoted is now appearing very lean.

Meanwhile, Charles has been scaling back his public duties as he continues to receive weekly treatment for his illness. The situation has also raised concerns about William and Catherine potentially taking on more responsibilities in the future.

In a break from tradition, Charles asked his brother Prince Edward and sister-in-law Duchess Sophie to stand in for him at a military event at the palace on April 8. The couple, along with French Ambassador to the UK Hélène Duchêne, participated in a significant changing of the guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

On March 31, Charles attended the Easter Sunday church service at Windsor Castle and greeted the crowd outside St. George’s Chapel. When royal fans wished him to get well soon, he responded with, “I’m doing my best.”
