Pete Davidson's return to host the season 49 premiere of 'Saturday Night Live' sparked intrigue as he dropped hints about not being able to mention Kanye West's name during a performance of the 'Barbie' ballad Catch all the buzz and excitement surrounding this memorable episode!

Pete Davidson showcased his trademark unfiltered humor during his first time hosting Saturday Night Live. The 29-year-old comedian took on a parody of Ryan Gosling's "I'm Just Ken" song from Barbie, using it to express his own frustrations with his career as some SNL cast members questioned his role as the host for the season premiere.

"I don't receive any recognition for the work I do. I even collaborated with Joe Pesci on a show called Bupkis, but it didn't receive any streaming attention except from my mom," the comedian sang. "When I'm under the influence, I do impulsive things like calling Colin Jost and suggesting 'Hey buddy, let's buy a boat.' Although people say I have peculiar eyes, I never spend my nights alone."

Contrasting this, Davidson emphasized that he is simply known as "Pete," as he imitated Ryan Gosling's memorable performance from Greta Gerwig's 2023 film.

Content Davidson silenced himself by putting his finger to his lips while SNL briefly displayed a photo of Kanye West. The 45-year-old rapper infamously insulted Davidson on social media last year, referring to him as "Skete," due to his involvement with Kim Kardashian. (Kardashian, 42, was married to West for six years before their separation in 2021. She later started dating Davidson, but their relationship ended in August 2022 after a few months of dating.)

In "I'm Just Pete," Davidson also reflected on his past scandals, experiences in rehab, and his dating history.

“I’m just Pete / My dating life is not discrete,” he added. “I generate tons of publicity for everything except my comedy.”

Saturday's episode saw Pete Davidson make his highly anticipated return to 'Saturday Night Live.' Davidson, who had been a cast member on the show from 2014 to 2022, was slated to host in May alongside Lil Uzi Vert. However, his debut was postponed due to the Writers Guild of America strike.

Before the official confirmation that the show would broadcast reruns for the rest of season 48, Davidson shared his disappointment regarding the situation.

"Lorne Michaels informed me about hosting a couple of months ago, but this week, as you are aware, there's a possibility of a writers' strike," he elaborated on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in April. "So I've been dedicating my efforts to this for around two to three months and now they're saying, 'We'll find out on Monday if it's going to happen or not.'"

"This situation is quite frustrating as it only reinforces the peculiar narrative that I have ingrained in my mind, such as thinking, 'Of course, something like this would only happen to me,'" Davidson remarked in a lighthearted tone, playfully emphasizing that the consequences of the strike seem to revolve around his personal experience rather than the well-being of the writers.

Pete Davidson had the opportunity to host 'Saturday Night Live' for the first time, despite the delay. This was made possible after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) voted to officially end the work stoppage in September, which had lasted for five months. Although the actors' union, SAG-AFTRA, has been on strike since July, 'Saturday Night Live' was exempted from the strike due to a special arrangement.

“SAG-AFTRA members who make appearances on Saturday Night Live, whether as hosts, guests, or cast members, are operating within the parameters of the Network Code agreement. This agreement should not be confused with the contract that is currently being boycotted. We want to clarify that their participation does not violate any SAG-AFTRA strike rules, and we fully support them in fulfilling their contractual obligations.”

Davidson, after leaving his role in Saturday Night Live, found success in Bupkis, a dramedy series on Peacock that is loosely based on his own life. The show premiered in May and has been renewed for a second season. Additionally, Davidson has continued his stand-up career. During a tour stop in Atlantic City in September, called "Jon, John & Pete," where he performed alongside Jon Stewart and John Mulaney, Davidson humorously referenced his "post-rehab glow." This came after reports in June that he sought treatment for his struggles with PTSD and borderline personality disorder. Saturday Night Live can be watched on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
