Patrick Mahomes Says Harrison Butker Is a Good Person

Patrick Mahomes spoke highly of his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Harrison Butker during a recent press conference. Despite the criticism of Butker's graduation speech, Mahomes emphasized that he has known Butker for seven years and believes he is a person of good character. Mahomes described Butker as someone who cares about others, his family, and strives to make a positive impact in society.

He mentioned that in the locker room, there are people from various backgrounds and perspectives. While there may be disagreements, he acknowledges that everyone is trying to lead in a positive direction.

Butker, aged 28, recently gave a speech at Benedictine College in Kansas. During his address, he criticized LGBTQIA+ rights, IVF and surrogacy for family planning, President Joe Biden's policies, and women pursuing careers instead of being stay-at-home wives and mothers.

Mahomes mentioned that he has only watched a few of the speech clips that are being shared on social media. He believes that these videos may have been taken out of context when they were shared online.

He also commented on Harrison's speech, stating that Harrison thought it through and expressed his own views. Mahomes had previously mentioned on “The Pat McAfee Show” in February that he doesn't interact much with Butker and lets him do his own thing. He emphasized the importance of judging someone based on their values and actions every day, rather than just one moment or speech.

The Chiefs quarterback emphasized that he may not have the same values as Butker, but he will not judge him based on those differences. Mahomes stated that he will evaluate Butker based on the character he displays every day, focusing on being a great person. He added that they will work together to support and improve each other daily. Mahomes mentioned the importance of coming together as a team to eliminate any distractions outside of the building.

Mahomes mentioned that social media has contributed to creating division among people's beliefs.

Butker, who took part in the Chiefs' OTA practice on Wednesday, has not spoken publicly about the criticism he received for his speech.
