Patrick Mahomes: Redefining Success in the NFL with Unbreakable Family Bonds

Patrick Mahomes aims to shatter the stereotype of NFL stars by showcasing their family-oriented side in the docuseries 'Quarterback' Joining forces with two other football players, Mahomes sets out to prove that professional athletes can excel both on the field and in their personal lives

During the Los Angeles premiere of the Netflix docuseries Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, 27, aimed to demonstrate that NFL stars can also prioritize their families. Alongside fellow quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, the series chronicles their journey throughout the 2022 NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs athlete noted that while everyone acknowledges the hard work involved, it is equally important to find a balance between football and personal life. He highlighted that viewers would not only witness this balance from him but also from Marcus and Kirk. Patrick, who is married to Brittany Mahomes (née Matthews) and has two children, Sterling (2) and Bronze (7 months), further explained that their intention was to provide a glimpse into the life of an NFL player with a prospering family, which he believed was successfully achieved in the show.

Cousins, aged 34, also shared the sentiment, emphasizing that his motivation for joining the project was to give a glimpse into his family life. "The reason we did it was to show our kids, to show our family, to show what a typical day off looks like," said the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. "I believe that played a significant role in making this project worthwhile."

While Patrick and Brittany, both aged 27, have been together since their high school days, Cousins met his wife Julie Hampton through a mutual friend while starting his professional football career. The couple got married in 2014 and later had two sons, Cooper (aged 5) and Turner (aged 4).

Cousins expressed initial concerns about allowing cameras into his personal life but ultimately found the experience positive, praising Netflix, NFL films, and the Minnesota Vikings for their great work. Mariota, on the other hand, cherished the docuseries for capturing a significant moment in his and his wife's parenting journey, particularly the opportunity to have the first ultrasound documented as a lifelong memory.

Mariota also expressed admiration for his wife's exceptional parenting abilities, describing her as an incredible mother. "She truly excels in taking care of our child and I am grateful to have her by my side," he praised.
