The latest episode of One Piece, episode 1086, uncovers the unsettling origins of the Cross Guild and reveals the new bounties of the Straw Hat Pirates after their time in Wano. Bounties have always been a hot topic within the fandom, and this time, the dissatisfaction is reaching unprecedented levels.
It's important to note that bounties in One Piece are not indicative of a character's power level, but rather assess the potential threat they pose to the World Government. This means that characters may receive bounties that are not reflective of their actual strength or threat level.
Five disappointing bounties of the Straw Hat Pirates from One Piece episode 1086
As a result of this engaging but flawed system, the new bounties of the Straw Hats have sparked a heated debate. Additionally, bounties cannot be easily compared with one another, as they are determined based on different factors each time. Various considerations are taken into account, and combat prowess is just one of them.
1) Luffy, with a bounty of 3,000,000,000 berries

Luffy gained incredible strength in Wano, mastering both the Advanced Conqueror’s Haki and the Gear 5 transformation. With these powers, he defeated the formidable Kaido in a 1v1 battle, earning him the title of Yonko.
Therefore, a bounty of three billion berries does not accurately reflect Luffy’s extraordinary accomplishments, especially considering that the same bounty was offered to Kid and Law, despite Luffy's overwhelming superiority.
Luffy surpasses both Kid and Law in individual strength and concrete outcomes. Despite deserving a bounty of four billion berries, the World Government deliberately overlooked his feats and powers in an attempt to diminish his fame. Rather than properly quantifying the rewards based on each fighter’s battlefield performance, the Gorosei simply divided Kaido and Big Mom’s combined bounties equally among Luffy, Law, and Kid, the three captains involved in the alliance.
2) Zoro, with a bounty of 1,111,000,000 berries

Roronoa Zoro, as the first mate of the Straw Hat Pirates and Luffy's right-hand man, is considered the crew's second strongest member. In Wano, he earned a reputation as one of the most renowned fighters. Despite his impressive new bounty, it fails to truly reflect his exceptional combat skills.
During the "Roof Piece" fight, Zoro displayed astonishing strength, surpassing even Law and Kid. Even before fully unleashing his Haki potential, Zoro possessed enough power to significantly injure a Yonko, leading to Big Mom warning Kaido to avoid his attacks.
After deflecting the destructive Hakai attack, Zoro, despite being injured, battled and injured Kaido. He left a scar on the Yonko, a feat that even the combined efforts of the Red Scabbards could not achieve. Zoro then mastered the use of Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, gaining a significant power boost.
With this newfound strength, he defeated Kaido’s most powerful subordinate, the Lunarian survivor King. Zoro’s remarkable accomplishments should have earned him a bounty of at least two billion, but he was instead given a reward of 1,111,000,000 berries, as a nod to his birthdate (11/11).
3) Sanji, with a bounty of 1,032,000,000 berries

Sanji holds a significant role within the Straw Hat Pirates, second only to Luffy and Zoro. During the Onigashima Raid, he unlocked powerful genetic traits from his family, greatly strengthening his body.
This transformation endowed him with a durable and high-performing exoskeleton, along with the new ability to wield the Ifrit Jambe, an advanced form of the Diable Jambe. With this newfound power, Sanji was able to defeat Queen, the third strongest member of the Beasts Pirates.
After the Wano Arc, Sanji's bounty rose to 1,032,000,000 berries. This amount, while impressive, seems rather low considering his victory over the third most powerful fighter in a Yonko crew. It is possible that Queen's bounty was inflated due to his reputation as a mad scientist, but it is perplexing that Sanji's bounty would be lower than his. It is likely that he deserved a higher reward for his accomplishments.
4) Franky, with a bounty of 394,000,000 berries

Franky, the Straw Hat crew's shipwright, is a bionically-enhanced cyborg with numerous hidden weapons, including the powerful Radical Beam. He can also pilot the General, a formidable and resilient mecha.
Despite defeating Sasaki, a high-ranking officer of the Beasts Pirates Flying Six, Franky was rewarded with a bounty of 394,000,000 berries, which was surprisingly lower than Sasaki's bounty, despite Franky's decisive victory.
The bounty was not determined based on the outlaw's actions, but rather on a general estimate of the group he belonged to. Franky and other Straw Hats received a standard upgrade of 300,000,000 berries, regardless of their personal strengths. To add insult to injury, Franky's picture on the bounty poster was mistakenly replaced with that of the Thousand Sunny's figurehead, which understandably upset him.
5) Chopper, with a bounty of 1,000 berries

When it comes to bounties, Chopper is often the most underestimated member of the crew, often being grouped with Nami and Usopp in the "Weak Trio." However, Chopper is a formidable fighter who should not be overlooked.
Thanks to his Rumble Balls, Chopper is able to make use of his Human-Human Fruit to alter his form as needed. During the events in Wano, Chopper demonstrated an enhanced version of his strongest form, Monster Point, which greatly improved his effectiveness in combat.

Nevertheless, the World Government still regards him as the Straw Hat crew's pet. Because of this absurd misconception, Chopper's bounty has consistently remained remarkably low, and it remains the same to this day.
1) Jinbe, with a bounty of 1,100,000,000
Jinbe's new bounty in One Piece episode 1086 (Image via Toei Animation)
Jinbe may not have the same combat skills as some of the top fighters in the franchise, but he is still a formidable individual. He is skilled in Armament Haki and is considered the greatest master of Fish-Man Karate. Despite facing stronger opponents, One Piece author Eiichiro Oda always portrays Jinbe with respect. As a former Warlord and a former subordinate of two Yonkos, Whitebeard and Big Mom, Jinbe recently joined the Straw Hats.
Jinbe's new bounty is surprising - it exceeds Sanji’s and is almost on par with Zoro’s. Whether Jinbe’s reward should be higher than Sanji’s is highly debated, and it doesn’t seem to make sense that it’s close to Zoro’s, given his clear status as the second-in-command of the Straw Hat crew.
However, the problem isn't that Jinbe’s bounty is too high, but rather that the bounties of all three Monster Trio members are disappointingly low. Compared to the bounties on the heads of other former Warlords, it’s reasonable for Jinbe to have a bounty that surpasses one billion berries.
2) Nico Robin, with a bounty of 930,000,000 berries

Chopper's bounty increase from 1 to 1,000 berries may be funny, but Nico Robin saw the largest increase among all the Straw Hat Pirates, going from 130,000,000 to 930,000,000 berries. In Wano, she defeated Black Maria with the help of Brook, proving her exceptional abilities beyond combat.
Robin's ability to read the Poneglyphs gives her access to the true history, making her a threat in the eyes of the World Government. Even as a child, she was given a 79,000,000 berries bounty, and now as a member of a Yonko crew with three Road Poneglyphs, she has the support and resources to uncover the world's secrets. Her high bounty seems warranted.
3) Usopp, with a bounty of 500,000,000 berries

Despite aspiring to be a fearless sailor like his father, Usopp is far from a formidable fighter. His dream is more symbolic, focused on overcoming fear rather than gaining strength. Despite being the weakest of the Straw Hat Pirates, Usopp is the most relatable character and is humorously hailed as "God Usopp" with a high bounty of half a billion berries.
4) Brook, with a bounty of 383,000,000 berries
Admittedly, Usopp's fighting skills in Wano left much to be desired. Despite this, he boldly boasted about defeating Page One and Ulti. Ironically, this tall tale only fueled the growth of his legendary reputation as a "godly" warrior.

Throughout the Raid on Onigashima, Brook's involvement was not as pivotal. He mainly supported Nico Robin, aiding her in the fight against Black Maria, and later shielding her from CP0 agents Guernica and Maha.
5) Nami, with a bounty of 366,000,000 berries
Brook, along with Franky, Nami, and Usopp, all saw their affiliation bounties increase by 300,000,000 berries. In One Piece 1086, Brook's bounty poster still features the title "Soul King" despite the change in the price on his head.

Despite not being a formidable combatant, Nami's resourcefulness makes her a formidable force. With her Sorcery Clima Takt, she can manipulate the weather to unleash powerful weather-based attacks.
After obtaining Zeus, Big Mom's lightning Homie, Nami greatly improved her combat skills. Although she may not be as tough as other characters, her firepower is impressive. Following the Wano Arc, the bounty on Nami's head was raised by 300,000,000 berries, the same increase given to some other Straw Hats.

In One Piece episode 1086, the eagerly awaited revelation of the Straw Hat Pirates' updated bounties has stirred up a whirlwind of emotions among fans. While the Cross Guild's intriguing origins have certainly captivated the fandom, it is the controversial nature of the bounties that has sparked heated discussions.
The disappointment and dissatisfaction expressed by many fans are understandable, as the bounties assigned to the Straw Hats seem to fall short of accurately reflecting their remarkable achievements and growth in the Wano arc. The bounty system, while intriguing, has its flaws, and this instance highlights some of its limitations.
The bounties assigned to Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, in particular, have drawn the ire of fans who feel that their incredible feats have been undervalued. Luffy's bounty, despite his awe-inspiring victory over Kaido and his ascension to Yonko status, falls short of expectations, especially when compared to the bounties of Kid and Law.
Similarly, Zoro's impressive display of strength and his crucial role in the defeat of Kaido have been overlooked, resulting in a bounty that many believe is underwhelming. Sanji's bounty, though a significant increase, fails to fully acknowledge the remarkable power-up he received and his triumph over Queen.
Overall, while One Piece episode 1086 provided some intriguing revelations, the controversial nature of the Straw Hats' bounties has left a bitter taste in the mouths of many fans. One can only hope that future developments in the series will address these concerns and provide a more satisfying representation of the crew's accomplishments.
