One Piece anime frustrates fans by returning to previous adaptation pacing

One Piece anime disappoints fans as it reverts back to its old adaptation pacing, leaving viewers longing for more excitement and development in the upcoming Wano arc conclusion

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, the Twitter user @pewpiece (Pew) leaked information about changes to the pacing of the television anime adaptation of One Piece. It was revealed that during the final stages of the Wano arc, the series had been adapting a full chapter of source material in each episode. However, it was predicted by many fans that this pacing was not sustainable in the long term due to the risk of catching up to the source material. Pew's information suggested that the series will now return to adapting less than one full chapter of source material per episode.

One Piece anime set to return to old adaptation pacing with the conclusion of the Wano arc

After all, the return to the original pacing of the One Piece anime brings a special treat for fans in the final stages of the Wano arc. It is a reality that many fans had prepared themselves for, given the close proximity of the anime series to the source material in recent times.

While some fans may defend the pacing of the One Piece anime, the truth is that the criticism is well-deserved. The pacing has become painfully slow for many viewers in recent years (excluding the end of the Wano arc), leading some to opt for the One Pace fan cut over the original anime.

The One Pace fan cut has revolutionized the viewing experience of the anime series by eliminating the unbearable pacing and unnecessary filler shots. This allows viewers to enjoy the story arcs at a much quicker pace, providing a more satisfying and enjoyable anime experience.

Toei Animation is on the verge of closing the roughly 40-chapter gap they typically keep between their adaptation and the source material. Despite this, fans were taken aback by the unexpected change. Many were anticipating that Toei would continue with the one-chapter-per-episode pacing, especially after the improved pacing in the conclusion of the Wano arc.

Nonetheless, Pew, a reputable source of series information, has likely provided accurate news. While disappointing for fans of the anime series, it is a reality that many had already accepted. Hopefully, the one-chapter-per-episode pacing will return for the more thrilling and captivating moments of the Egghead arc.

Editor's P/S

As a hard fan of One Piece, I am deeply disappointed by the news that the anime is reverting back to its old adaptation pacing. The recent Wano arc had finally given us a taste of what One Piece could be like with a faster, more exciting pace, and it was a breath of fresh air. But now, it seems that Toei Animation is going back to its old ways, and I can't help but feel frustrated and let down.

I understand that the anime needs to avoid catching up to the manga, but there are ways to do that without sacrificing the quality of the adaptation. The One Pace fan cut has shown us that it is possible to create a more streamlined, enjoyable version of the anime, and I wish that Toei Animation would take a cue from them. The current pacing is simply too slow, and it makes it difficult to stay engaged with the story. I hope that Toei Animation will reconsider this decision and give us back the faster pacing that we've come to love.
