Todd Garner's Cryptic Teases
Producer Todd Garner has fanned the flames of fans’ excitement for the sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat in recent months via a series of cryptic set photos. The producer’s more notable behind-the-scenes snaps include partial views of two legendary Mortal Kombat weapons: Shao Kahn’s war hammer and one of Kitana’s blade-tipped fans. Garner also sparked a flurry of speculation with an image of a rough stone floor bathed in red light, which many believe points to the hellish Netherrealm’s inclusion in Mortal Kombat 2. Garner has arguably outdone himself with his latest Mortal Kombat 2 pic of a pale, grey hand protruding from a black sleeve, seemingly belonging to Quan Chi
Quan Chi or Noob Saibot: The Mystery Continues
In the Mortal Kombat video games, Quan Chi is a devious sorcerer who plagues the heroes of Earthrealm. While Garner’s post doesn’t explicitly announce Quan Chi’s inclusion in Mortal Kombat 2, many franchise devotees responded as if it did. Some fans believe the mystery hand in Garner's photo belongs to another Mortal Kombat 2 villain, Noob Saibot. Regardless of whose hand is pictured, it’s almost certainly bad news for Earthrealm.
New Additions to Mortal Kombat 2
Protagonist Cole Young is set to bolster his side’s ranks with several new warriors in Mortal Kombat 2. This includes Johnny Cage, who was notably absent from the 2021 flick. The Boys’ Karl Urban is officially on board as Cage, following persistent buzz that he was in talks to star. It’s unclear at this stage how closely Urban’s Cage will emulate his pixel-powered counterpart. The first Mortal Kombat film’s finale suggests Johnny’s original Hollywood backstory remains intact.
