Morgan Wallen made jokes about his singing skills before his performance at Ole Miss this weekend. This comes two weeks after his arrest and a year since he had to cancel a previous concert at the University of Mississippi.
The 30-year-old musician took the stage at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday, April 20, in Oxford, Mississippi. This was after he got in trouble for throwing a chair over the balcony at Eric Church's bar in Nashville earlier this month. Wallen's performance at Ole Miss was a big deal as it was his first show there since he had to cancel last year, just minutes before he was supposed to go on stage.
A cheeky message in all caps was displayed on the jumbotron at the stadium before the show started. It announced that Morgan was ready to perform and make things right, so there was no need to leave for the next two hours. The message excitedly declared that Morgan and the boys were about to rock Oxford's face off!
The post shared the message from last year announcing the cancellation of the show due to Morgan losing his voice. Fans were informed to leave the stadium safely and refunds were promised for the event.
After the concert was canceled, a fan took legal action against Wallen for not giving her a refund.
In court documents, the plaintiff mentioned that while ticket costs may be reimbursed, there was no mention of compensating concert attendees for additional expenses related to the cancellation. These expenses include travel, accommodation, meals, merchandise purchases, service charges, and other similar costs.
Wallen addressed the criticism on his Instagram Story, expressing his regret over the news. He emphasized the importance of his fans and his desire to perform on stage for them. However, he shared that he is currently on vocal rest as per his doctor's orders, resulting in the need to reschedule this week's shows.
The Saturday show by Wallen follows his recent legal troubles, as he faces three felony charges of disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment stemming from an incident on April 7.
Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, according to his lawyer, Worrick Robinson. He is fully cooperating with authorities.
The singer addressed the incident on social media on Friday, April 19. Wallen stated, "I didn't feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I've reached out to Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief's. I'm not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility."
"I want to express my sincere respect for the hardworking officers who ensure our safety every day. As for my upcoming tour, there are no changes planned."
The University of Mississippi was cautious about having Wallen perform at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, where the Ole Miss football team plays.
"We have been informed about the situation, but as of now, we have not received any updates," said Keith Carter, the athletics director at Ole Miss, in an email to SuperTalk Mississippi Media earlier this month. "We are keeping a close eye on everything."
