Morgan Wallen bid farewell to his iconic mullet and mustache temporarily. "Just when everyone thought I was sticking to the clean-shaven look forever lol," the 30-year-old shared on Instagram on August 12, along with a backstage photo from his recent concert.
Wallen's trademark look was noticeably absent at the beginning of his Friday, August 11 show in Columbus, Ohio. In a social media video, Wallen explained that he decided to shave off his long hair as he no longer liked it. Without missing a beat, he assured his fans that it was business as usual and proceeded to perform his next song, titled "One Thing at a Time!"
Wallen appeared at the show wearing a "Hard Living" tee and jeans, complemented by an orange baseball cap concealing his short hair. Promptly, Wallen's followers on social media began speculating about the cause for this surprising change. "Did he make a bet or something?" expressed one TikTok user in the comments.
Others, however, gushed that he was “more attractive” without the mullet and ‘stache.
Country singer Morgan Wallen drew inspiration from his father's hairstyle, particularly his mullet, which he discovered while looking through his parents' photo albums during a visit home for Easter two years ago. Morgan shared this anecdote during a November 2019 interview on The Bobby Bones Show, noting the striking similarities between himself and his father in terms of appearance and mannerisms. He also noted that his parents were 25 years old when they got married, the same age he was when he stumbled upon the memorable photograph.
He stated at that moment, "I thought it appeared appealing, so I decided to try it out!"
Subsequently, Wallen recounted the anecdote to The Tennessean in January 2021, mentioning that he opted to imitate the hairstyle as a way to honor his father and add a touch of uniqueness. He further stated, "It quickly became popular, my friend. That was the end of it. It was an instant hit."
Wallen has been on tour for the majority of the year, except for when he took a medical leave. Just before one of his concerts in April, he had to cancel due to a doctor's orders for vocal rest. He had injured his vocal cords and was diagnosed with vocal fold trauma, which forced him to take a break from performing for six weeks.
On June 6, he took to Instagram to announce that the doctor had cleared him to talk and sing again, stating, "we're back."
