In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jimmy Butler expressed his support for Morgan Wallen following the recent controversy surrounding the country singer's use of the N-word in a video from two years ago. Butler, aged 34, stated that he was unaffected by the controversy and had minimal knowledge of the situation. He did not watch the video and has no intention of delving further into it. Butler firmly believes that Wallen is not a morally flawed individual in any manner.
He continued by stating that the individual in question is a friend of his and he is uncertain about the exact details of what transpired. However, he believes it was an error on his friend's part and that he has since learned from it and grown as a person. He further expressed that he is unaware of the specific words used or the context in which they were said. Nonetheless, he holds the belief that his friend is an exceptional human being who made a mistake.
In February 2021, a video of Wallen, aged 30, emerged on TMZ where he can be heard saying derogatory remarks. Consequently, Wallen's record contract with Big Loud Records was temporarily suspended, and his music was removed from radio stations and streaming platforms. Additionally, he was not permitted to attend the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. The singer of "Whiskey Glasses" later issued an apology for his actions and expressed regret, stating that he wished he could retract his words.
The Miami Heat player, on his end, shared with Rolling Stone that he developed a passion for country music in 2010. In June, during Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets, Butler had Wallen’s music playing in the arena. He disclosed to the outlet that he even discussed with Wallen the possibility of joining him on stage in Toronto and singing “one line of a song” for his birthday on September 14.

Butler, who has been dating Shakira, is expanding his love for country music. He recently shared that he is actively collaborating with Nashville artists to write and produce music.
"I'd rather keep the names of the artists I'm working with a secret, so it'll be a pleasant surprise," he explained. "Currently, I am in the studio, dedicating my time to writing and producing country music. We have a talented group of artists and songwriters onboard. At the moment, we have about 45 tracks, and I am eager to create even more."
Butler, who is committed to the Heat until 2026, confirmed that an album is in the works. However, there is currently no specific release date set. "The date I originally had in mind keeps getting delayed due to the overwhelming priority of my basketball career," he stated. "Perhaps some of these songs will be included in future albums. I am eagerly looking forward to sharing it with everyone."
