Mind-Blowing Star Wars Surprises Unveiled in Ahsoka Episode 4 Recap

Summary

Stranded on the planet Seatos, Ahsoka and Sabine are confronted by Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth and her mercenaries. Disregarding New Republic orders, Hera embarks on an investigation of suspicious activity on Seatos, enlisting the assistance of X-wing pilot Carson Teva.

After losing her family on Mandalore, Sabine is faced with a difficult choice. She decides to aid the villains in order to bring back Ezra Bridger. As we reach episode 4 of Ahsoka, the midpoint of the show, significant events unfold that will shape the future of Star Wars. Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo) find themselves marooned on the planet Seatos. Their T-6 shuttle is temporarily disabled following a battle in space. Meanwhile, Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth (played by Diana Lee Inosanto) is in the final stages of planning to discover the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger. To ensure the Jedi cannot interfere with her scheme, she enlists her mercenaries to halt their efforts.

Former Jedi Baylan Skoll sends his apprentice Shin Hati and the Inquisitor Marrok to intercept their enemies in the forest, leading to intense lightsaber duels. Ahsoka and Baylan finally face off, despite their similar pasts, and the battle for the galaxy ensues. The titular character faces a devastating outcome, forcing Sabine to make a difficult decision. As the heroes appear to be defeated and the New Republic remains unaware of a looming threat, Ahsoka receives unexpected help from an old friend. Hera Disobeys New Republic Orders & The Ghost Takes Flight

The Mandalorian's Carson Teva Joins The Fight

Despite her status as a general in the New Republic, Hera Syndulla is not granted the freedom to come and go as she pleases. In episode 3 of Ahsoka, the Senate Committee of the New Republic rejects Hera's request to deploy a task force to Seatos, where there are suspicions of troubling activities led by Morgan Elsbeth. Determined not to abandon her friends, Hera defies orders by bringing along her son, Jacen Syndulla, and Chopper on board the Ghost, accompanied by a small squad of X-wings, in order to conduct an investigation. Although her actions could put her career at risk, Hera appears unconcerned, assuring Jacen that he, too, can bend the rules when he becomes a general.

Accompanying Hera on her expedition to the Denab system is Carson Teva, an X-wing pilot known for his recurring appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Teva serves as a remarkable connection between the three Star Wars shows set during the New Republic Era. His concerns about an imminent Imperial threat in the Outer Rim prompt him to follow Syndulla's lead and investigate suspicious activities. Teva's presence gives rise to inquiries about the Star Wars timeline, as it was previously assumed that his involvement in The Mandalorian season 3 would align with Ahsoka's storyline. However, his latest appearance suggests that Ahsoka's narrative has progressed further along the timeline.

Marrok's Identity & Fate Are Revealed

Baylan Wants To Build Something New

After months of speculation, the enigmatic Inquisitor Marrok's true identity was finally unveiled: nobody. Intercepting Ahsoka within the Seatos forest, Marrok initiates a lightsaber duel with the former Jedi. Although his whirling crimson blades fail to intimidate Ahsoka, she effortlessly overcomes Marrok through her patience and unwavering focus, gruesomely severing him at the midsection. To everyone's astonishment, Marrok's body releases an eerie green mist and rapidly disintegrates, suggesting that he had been under the nefarious influence of Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth's dark magick. While it is conceivable that Marrok himself may have been a Nightbrother hailing from Dathomir, there is an equal likelihood that he was a reanimated corpse merely carrying out Elsbeth's malicious commands.

After slaying Marrok, Ahsoka makes her way to the edge of the cliff, where she encounters Baylan Skoll, a dark sider Force-user guarding the star map. Baylan introduces himself, mentioning that Anakin Skywalker had spoken highly of his former apprentice. However, Ahsoka subtly mocks Skoll, confessing that she had never heard of him before. Before their intense lightsaber duel ensues, Baylan clarifies that he has no intention of instigating conflict and believes that Grand Admiral Thrawn's actions, though tragic, are necessary. Instead, Baylan views the new galaxy as a chance to rebuild and achieve a mysterious objective that had eluded him during his time as a Jedi.

Sabine's Family Was Killed On Mandalore

Sabine Joins The Villains - But Isn't One Herself

While attempting to lure her, Baylan Skoll uncovers the tragic fate of Sabine's family on Mandalore. The Mandalorian clan, Clan Wren, prominently featured in Star Wars Rebels, was seemingly obliterated during the Empire's merciless Mandalorian genocide referred to as the Night of a Thousand Tears. This revelation sheds light on Sabine's decision to remain on Lothal for years after the Battle of Endor - she had no other refuge to seek. The Star Wars narrative also intertwines Ahsoka with the downfall of Mandalore, disclosing her disregard for Sabine's warnings regarding the imminent danger to their shared homeworld, ultimately fracturing their relationship.

In possession of the star map, Sabine Wren faces a difficult decision: surrender the map and assist Baylan Skoll, or risk losing Ezra Bridger forever. Exploiting Sabine's feelings of isolation, Baylan cunningly assures her that he can reunite her with the missing Jedi. Ezra is her sole remaining family, so with reluctance, Sabine hands over the map to Baylan, allowing the villains to complete their launch calculations. Remarkably, Baylan keeps his promise, shielding Sabine from Shin's attempt to kill her with a Force choke. Although it appears she has abandoned her Jedi path, Sabine harbors no intention of joining the antagonists and is driven solely by her personal determination to bring Ezra back home.

The Eye Of Sion Jumps To Hyperspace

With the construction of the Eye of Sion now finished, Morgan Elsbeth initiates the final preparations to activate the hyperspace ring. The star map obtained by Ahsoka is aligned perfectly with the Eye of Sion, enabling the machine to calculate the precise coordinates necessary to locate the banished Grand Admiral Thrawn. Just as Hera and her New Republic forces arrive, they find themselves witnessing the Eye of Sion in action, yet unfortunately, their arrival comes too late to intervene. With Sabine assisting Baylan in navigating the map, Elsbeth's droids finalize the last calculations. Suddenly, the Eye of Sion propels itself into hyperspace, heading towards an unidentified galaxy at an immense velocity that inflicts havoc upon the X-wings left in its wake.

Jacen Syndulla Is Force-Sensitive

Immediately after entering hyperspace, the Eye of Sion, Jacen Syndulla expresses a sense of unease to Hera. This isn't just a casual reference to the iconic "I've got a bad feeling about this" line from Star Wars. Jacen's expression reveals genuine fear, suggesting a disturbance in the Force. Although it was always assumed that Jacen inherited his father, Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus', Force sensitivity, this chilling moment aboard the Ghost serves as the official confirmation of his own Force abilities.

Did Ahsoka Die?

The World Between Worlds Returns

After being defeated by Baylan and falling off the cliffs of Seatos, Ahsoka mysteriously vanishes until the final moments of the episode. Despite her expertise, a mere plunge into the ocean is not the cause of her absence. Instead, Ahsoka finds herself awakening in a different realm, completely devoid of any trace of Seatos or water. This unfamiliar location leaves her bewildered and gives off the impression that she has entered the Netherworld of the Force, where she is joined by others who have passed on. However, Ahsoka's journey is far from over, as this otherworldly encounter will ultimately lead her to become Ahsoka the White, as witnessed in Rebels.

Ahsoka investigates her surroundings and discovers that she is now in the World Between Worlds, a mysterious realm existing between time and space. Ezra Bridger previously rescued her by using a portal in this otherworldly dimension, suggesting that her destiny is closely intertwined with the enigmatic power of the Force. In the live-action adaptation, the familiar bridges and arches from the animated series Rebels are still recognizable, albeit with slight differences in appearance due to lighting. As for how Ahsoka entered and will eventually leave the World Between Worlds, that remains unknown. However, her journey forward necessitates learning from a singular teacher.

Anakin Skywalker Reunites With Ahsoka

Ahsoka is startled when she hears "Hello Snips," momentarily thinking she's been injured. However, she soon realizes that the person behind her is none other than her former Jedi master, Anakin Skywalker, portrayed by Hayden Christensen. Ahsoka is overjoyed to see her old friend, who greets her with a warm smile. Anakin is dressed in his familiar dark Jedi robes, with his lightsaber holstered at his side, just as Ahsoka remembers him. Before continuing on her mission to locate Ezra and Thrawn, Ahsoka will have the opportunity to reconcile with Anakin. An important aspect of Ahsoka's journey as a series is the relationship between masters and apprentices, and the presence of Anakin Skywalker is crucial in shaping Ahsoka Tano into the person she is meant to become.
