Expanding on the story of its eponymous heroine's live-action debut in The Mandalorian, Star Wars: Ahsoka follows her exploits during the period after the fall of the Empire and before the rise of the First Order, which is depicted in the sequel trilogy. Drawing inspiration from Star Wars: Rebels, The Clone Wars, and other animated shows, Ahsoka has garnered attention from both dedicated fans of the franchise who have closely followed the animated series and new viewers intrigued by lead actress Rosario Dawson's positive remarks about the show's inclusivity.
After surpassing The Mandalorian season 3 in its premiere, Ahsoka episode 3 treated dedicated Rebels fans with a delightful surprise. The episode introduced the ethereal space creatures called the Purrgil in their first-ever live-action appearance. These majestic beings made a brief appearance, but it was enough to establish a concrete connection to Ezra Bridger and Thrawn. In a previous encounter, the Purrgil had spirited Bridger and Thrawn away into hyperspace aboard Thrawn's vessel. Despite pleas from his friends, Bridger chose to remain on the ship, determined to ensure Thrawn's defeat. Now, their presence in Ahsoka indicates their triumphant return to the galaxy far, far away.
Showrunner Dave Filoni, who initially revealed Ahsoka's ties to Rebels, officially confirmed that both characters are indeed alive after the conclusion of the animated show. Despite the temptation to include an end credits scene, Filoni decided against it in order to handle their story properly and avoid making premature commitments. He has several theories regarding their whereabouts and what unfolds next, but he assures that they both survive. Ezra Bridger, a character fans eagerly await in the live-action Star Wars realm, plays a significant role in Ahsoka, which has essentially become an extension of Rebels. Speculations already suggest Bridger might get his own live-action spin-off following his appearance in Ahsoka, making his presence in the series even more exciting for fans.
Despite the overwhelmingly positive responses to each episode of the live-action series, it is becoming clear that Ahsoka may not be as welcoming to new Star Wars fans as previously promised. Despite the earlier assurances, the reality is that after just 3 episodes, the series has firmly established itself as a sequel to years of animated Star Wars material and lore, contradicting the idea that prior knowledge is unnecessary to enjoy the show.
