Highlights

McDonald's in Japan is releasing a new line of Pokemon Happy Meal toys, including Pikachu-themed items and traditional Japanese festival-inspired toys.

McDonald's and Pokemon have had a longstanding partnership since 1998, featuring a range of promotions and toy offerings. Given the immense popularity of Pokemon in Japan, these delightful McDonald's Happy Meal toys serve as a perfect conclusion to the summer season, although their availability in other countries remains uncertain.

McDonald's in Japan has introduced a new series of Pokemon Happy Meal toys. This is not the first time the fast-food chain has collaborated with video games, as they have previously featured Happy Meal toys promoting The Super Mario Bros. Movie and special Overwatch 2 skins. Additionally, McDonald's mascot Grimace recently appeared in his own Game Boy Advance-style platformer as part of a birthday celebration event.

Since the release of Pokemon Red and Blue in 1998, McDonald's has held special events and promotions for Pokemon. These events have included Pokemon-themed toys and promotional trading cards in children's Happy Meals. The latest collaboration between Pokemon and McDonald's was announced in late July and features cards inspired by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Currently, these cards are confirmed for Germany and Austria, while a start date for the US is still to be determined.

This isn't the only Pokemon event happening at McDonald's. Another exciting Pokemon event is set to take place in Japan later this month. McDonald's will be launching a new line of Happy Meal Toys inspired by traditional Japanese festivals. According to SoraNews 24, these Pokemon toys will be available from August 11 to August 12. The Pokemon Natsumatsuri Happy Set will include two toys. The first one is the Festival Pikachu Taiko, which features Pikachu dressed in traditional Japanese festival attire. When you hit the drum, it makes different sounds. The second toy is the Poke Ball Chochin, a Japanese-style lantern that glows in the dark. It also opens up to reveal a secret compartment and comes with stickers.

In addition to these two toys, McDonald's latest Pokemon Happy Meal tie-in also offers miniature yo-yo-fishing and ring toss games. Another set of toys will be released between August 18 and August 24, including a Pikachu Target Shooting squirt gun set, a Pikachu-themed uchiwa fan, and pinball and disc-fishing games that resemble activities at a summer Japanese festival. On August 25, a third round of Pokemon Happy Meal toys is expected, although details are currently limited.

Considering the enduring popularity of the Pokemon franchise in Japan, these new McDonald's Happy Meal toys seem like a fitting way to conclude the summer. However, it remains unclear if any of these toys will be available in other parts of the world. Fortunately, Pokemon fans in the US and elsewhere can still look forward to a wealth of exciting content, as revealed during this week's Pokemon Presents livestream.
