Top 10 Powerful and Adorable Fairy Pokemon in Gen 9

The Fairy type was introduced in Gen 6 of the Pokemon series and remains a popular addition in Gen 9's Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Despite the common association with cute and delicate fairies, the classification actually includes a diverse range of creatures, from petite sprites to noble beasts and menacing monsters. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet further expanded on the Fairy type, introducing some of the coolest critters of the type yet.

The addition of the Fairy type was meant to balance out the total number of types to 18 and provide a counter to the overpowered Dragon type, which had dominated since Gen 1. To level the playing field, several mons from previous generations were given the Fairy typing, resulting in previously underutilized creatures becoming strong contenders in the meta. For the purpose of this ranking, the final stage mon will represent the entire evolutionary line, including any Megas or regional variants.

S-Tier

These Fairy-type Pokémon are the cream of the crop, featuring both beloved fan favorites and powerful competitive contenders. Zacian from Pokémon Sword and Shield and Flutter Mane from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been dominating the Pokémon VGC meta in Gen 8 and Gen 9 respectively. Meanwhile, the Tapus have been instrumental in shaping the Gen 7 meta. But it's not just their battle prowess that makes these Pokémon special. Gardevoir, Mimikyu, and Tinkaton have captured the hearts of fans with their unique designs and fascinating lore within the Pokémon universe, securing their places as some of the most iconic Fairy-types around.

The list includes Wigglytuff, Alolan Ninetales, Gardevoir, Togekiss, Sylveon, Xerneas, Mimikyu, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini, Zacian, Tinkaton, and Flutter Mane.

The Fairy types in the A-Tier category are strong contenders but fall short compared to the top-tier Fairy types. Popular competitive Mons such as Whimsicott, Klefki, and Grimmsnarl do not define the meta like other Fairy types. Even Scarlet and Violet's Scream Tail and Iron Valiant have their competitive niches but cannot compete with the likes of Zacian or Flutter Mane. However, Mawile is notable for its Mega Evolution, which gave this underappreciated mon a new lease of life. Unfortunately, with Mega Evolution absent in Gen 8 onwards, Mawile has once again fallen out of favor.

B-Tier

Most of the Fairy types mentioned in this category are not particularly useful when it comes to battling, but they still manage to capture the hearts of many Pokemon fans due to their adorable designs. However, their stats are not very impressive. Even though Mega Altaria and Mega Audino are considered as Pokemon Mega Evolutions, they are often overshadowed by much more powerful Megas present in the series. Some of the popular Pokemon in this category include Dedenne, Ribombee, Alcremie, and Dachsbun.

Granbull, Aromatisse, and Slurpuff are considered to be some of the least popular Fairy-type Pokemon due to various reasons. Aromatisse and Slurpuff were introduced in Generation 6 as version exclusives, requiring a trade to evolve and making them difficult to obtain. Granbull, originally from Generation 2, was an odd choice to receive the Fairy type and was not the most memorable Pokemon to begin with. Additionally, Enamorus, introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, faced controversy over its design. Despite having their own set of fans, these Fairy-type Pokemon are often overlooked in favor of more appealing or powerful options.
