A new housing development in Henderson, Nevada is taking inspiration from the popular gaming franchise Pokemon by naming its streets after beloved characters. The development, called Serenity Place and built by Harmony Homes, features homes located on streets such as Jigglypuff Place, Squirtle Lane, and Snorlax Lane. This unique feature allows residents to immerse themselves in the world of Pokemon and even fulfill their dreams of becoming a Pokemon Master. The housing development company hopes that this playful touch will attract buyers looking for a fun and unique living experience.
Harmony Homes' construction manager, Andrea Miller, understands that coming up with unique street names for a neighborhood is not an easy task. The developer must first determine the number of streets and submit twice as many names to the jurisdiction to ensure that they are not already in use. To avoid using common names for the streets in Serenity Place, Miller decided to use her kids' favorite Pokemon characters. The idea was well-received by both young children and diehard Pokemon fans, with Jigglypuff Place being Miller's personal favorite as it never fails to make her giggle.
This is not the first time Harmony Homes has sought inspiration from popular children's media when naming streets. Their neighborhood in North Las Vegas features Paw Patrol street names, while their upcoming project, Grandview, is set to have Yellowstone-inspired street names. Avery Place, another neighborhood inspired by the home of Tabasco sauce, Avery Island, has streets named after peppers, with Pickled Pepper Place serving as the main street.
Aside from its immense success as a video game and TV series, Pokemon has also become a popular destination for tourists in several countries. Many travelers have made their way to various Pokemon Centers in Japan and Singapore to purchase official merchandise and fully immerse themselves in the world of Pokemon. Additionally, some cities in Japan have installed Poke Lids, artistic manhole covers featuring beloved Pokemon characters such as Snorlax, Eevee, and Pikachu.
For nearly two decades, Pokemon has captured the hearts of fans worldwide as they invest time in playing the games and watching the animated series. With Serenity Place adopting Pokemon street names, it may attract both young and old fans to purchase homes there while expressing their love for the franchise. Hopefully, Nintendo will not require Harmony Homes to change the street names in the future, given the company's strict stance on copyright.
