LeBron James' oldest son, Bronny James, is mirroring his father's basketball career and showing promising signs of becoming a superstar. Born in 2004, Bronny's athletic prowess began catching attention at the early age of 10. When he enrolled in Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles for high school, his popularity soared to a national level, prompting ESPN to broadcast his team's games.
LeBron, however, maintained a protective stance towards his son, preventing him from participating in interviews in his first year of high school. Meanwhile, Bronny expressed that his renowned father had not coerced him into pursuing the sport.
"I was practically born into it, so I believe the path was already predetermined," Bronny revealed to Sports Illustrated in August 2022. "But my father is understanding enough to allow me to choose any path I desire, even if I decided not to pursue basketball. Nevertheless, I am confident that basketball will be my main focus."
Bronny, shortly after enrolling at the University of Southern California, had to be rushed to the hospital when he suffered cardiac arrest during a workout session with the USC team. A spokesperson for the James family stated in July 2023 that the medical staff was able to provide treatment and transfer Bronny to the hospital. Fortunately, he is now in stable condition and has been moved out of the ICU. The James family kindly requests privacy and respect during this time, and we will provide further updates to the media as they become available.

Always Here for Him

Keeping It Casual
LeBron initially mentioned the possibility of sharing the court with his son in the NBA during an interview with The Athletic in February 2022. He expressed his desire to conclude his basketball career by joining forces with Bronny for a single season, stating that he would go to any lengths necessary to make it happen. At that point, the motivation would no longer be monetary, but rather the unique bond and opportunity to play alongside his son.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, LeBron discussed his approach to his children's involvement in basketball. Rather than pressuring them, he prefers not to have extensive conversations about their future in the sport. He mentioned that he mentions his aspirations to the basketball gods, hoping that they will be realized. Throughout his career, LeBron has set goals and communicated them to the basketball gods, who have consistently delivered. He expressed his hope that they will do the same for his latest goal.
LeBron also revealed that he has never instructed his sons, Bronny and Bryce, to play basketball. Instead, he has allowed them to discover their own passion for the sport. He believes that if they pursue basketball solely because their parents do, their enthusiasm will quickly fade away.
NBA Dreams
"I desire to be present on the court alongside my son, Bronny," LeBron informed ESPN in January 2023. "Either we should be donning the same team jersey or competing against each other. And by 'competing against,' I don't mean guarding each other throughout the entire game, given that he plays as a point guard and I may be required to play as a center or any other position the team necessitates. However, it would be an absolute delight to emulate the dynamic duo of Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. That scenario would be absolutely perfect."
LeBron mentioned that he and Bronny don't actively talk about playing together, but Bronny has expressed his desire to become a professional basketball player. LeBron inquired about his aspirations and Bronny revealed his goal of playing in the NBA. LeBron added that if Bronny wants to achieve it, he must work hard. LeBron playfully remarked that Bronny still has a significant amount of progress to make before reaching his own career milestones.
Bright Future
LeBron assured that his son Bronny had complete freedom in choosing his college, mentioning that he could attend any university without any hindrance. In an interview with The Oregonian in January 2023, LeBron stated, "All I need to do is make a simple phone call. If Bronny expresses his desire to attend a particular college, his talent and abilities will secure his admission." LeBron also emphasized that Bronny possessed an immense drive for personal and team improvement, while harboring ambitious aspirations for his future.
Proud Dad
LeBron expressed his delight when Bronny announced his decision to join USC. During a press conference in May 2023, he proudly shared, "I'm really proud of him. It's an extraordinary achievement. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time a member of the James family has attended college, unless it was one of my ancestors from many generations ago." He continued, "This is an incredibly thrilling and humbling moment for our family. It's amazing to see him grow into the wonderful person he is. USC is fortunate to have him, and they will be pleasantly surprised by his amazing personality, not just his basketball skills."
