Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have come to an agreement regarding the custody of their children amidst their ongoing divorce. In court documents obtained by Page Six on Tuesday, October 10, it is stated that the couple, aged 34 and 27 respectively, believe they will soon be able to resolve all issues in a friendly manner. Additionally, they have reached a temporary custody arrangement for their two daughters, Willa and Delphine, who are aged 3 and 14 months.
The girls will be under Turner's care until October 21, during which she is allowed to travel with them within the United States and the United Kingdom. On October 21, Turner will hand over custody of their daughters to Jonas, and they will remain with him until November 2. The two will continue to alternate custody until January 7, 2024, with Jonas having the girls for Thanksgiving and Turner having them for Christmas.
In September, the singer filed for divorce from the Game of Thrones actress after being married for four years. The divorce proceedings became contentious when Turner accused Jonas of wrongfully keeping their daughters. In her lawsuit, she alleged that he had agreed in December 2022 to move their children to England and was refusing to give her their passports.
In response to the lawsuit, Jonas' spokesperson issued a statement to We, stating that it was regrettable that a legal disagreement had arisen regarding the end of their marriage. The spokesperson conveyed Jonas' hope that Turner would reconsider her strong legal stance and approach the situation in a more constructive and private manner.
The custody battle, due to their daughters having dual citizenship, became complicated as Turner fought to relocate them to the U.K. Jonas' representative stated in a September statement that he was seeking shared parenting, where the children would be raised by both their mother and father. Jonas also expressed his willingness for the children to be raised in both the U.S. and the U.K., as they were born in the U.S. and have primarily lived there.
Days later, it was confirmed by Us that Jonas and Turner have signed a temporary consent agreement, ensuring that their daughters will remain in the New York City area for now.
During that time, a source alluded to Jonas and Turner's eagerness to come to an agreement in the matter. "Their main focus is the welfare and happiness of their children, and that is where they are directing all their energy," the source revealed. "Ultimately, their goal is to find a resolution that satisfies both parties."
In October, a New York judge decided that the separated pair would proceed to trial for the custody matter in Manhattan in January 2024.
During the conflict, Taylor Swift, a close friend of Turner and Jonas' former partner, provided the actress with accommodation in New York City. According to a source, "Taylor graciously offered Sophie one of her investment properties in NYC while she settles everything with her divorce. She's allowing Sophie to stay for as long as necessary and offering her full support."
