Joe Jonas seemed completely committed to relocating to the United Kingdom with Sophie Turner, as evidenced by their recent property purchase in Wallingford, Oxford, England. The couple signed the agreement to buy the approximately $9 million home on July 7, just three months before Jonas filed for divorce.
In an offer letter dated June 16th, Jonas expressed his admiration for the estate. He explained that he and his wife made the decision to spend more time in the UK and find a permanent home. Their daughter had three specific requirements - having chickens, a pony, and a Wendy house. According to the September documents, many of the houses they viewed met these criteria, but as soon as they caught sight of the charming blue shutters adorning this home, they felt a sense of magic that surpassed anything they had felt before.
Jonas went on to describe the property, mentioning the "beautiful walled garden" and other appealing features. He described it as heavenly and mentioned that his father-in-law, who is an avid gardener, was highly impressed by the vegetable garden as well. This was an important sign off for them.
While envisioning a life overseas with Turner and their young daughters, Willa, aged 3, and Delphine, aged 14 months, Jonas expressed his excitement about dropping off his children at school and enjoying leisurely afternoons at a pub with friends. Additionally, he felt incredibly inspired by the layout of the house, especially with the inclusion of a spacious room that could serve as his recording studio.
Taking a moment to acknowledge the previous owners, Jonas expressed his gratitude and admiration for the love they had for the home. He and his partner, Sophie, could envision their children growing up in this dwelling and making it their forever home. Jonas genuinely believed that they would be able to provide excellent care for the house and pay homage to the magic the previous owners had created for many years to come.
On September 5, it was announced that Jonas has filed for divorce from Turner, marking the end of their four-year marriage. In a joint statement posted on Instagram the following day, both individuals described the decision as a mutual and amicable one.
After their separation, the situation worsened as Turner filed a lawsuit against Jonas, accusing him of unlawfully restraining their daughters in the United States. She claimed that Jonas had denied them their passports, preventing them from traveling to visit their mother abroad. Turner stated that she and Jonas had previously agreed to relocate to the United Kingdom in December 2022.
In a statement to Us on September 21, Jonas responded to the "misleading" accusations through his representative. He stated that there was a court order in Florida, where he initially filed for divorce, which prevented both him and Turner from taking their daughters out of the U.S. while they finalized their separation.
According to the statement, Jonas is seeking shared parenting with the children, wanting them to be raised by both their mother and father. He is also supportive of them being raised in both the U.S. and the UK. The statement emphasized that Willa and Delphine were not abducted, as they were born in the U.S. and have primarily resided there, making them American citizens.
On Monday, September 25, the couple signed a temporary agreement to keep their children in the New York City area for now. However, there is still a disagreement between Jonas and Turner as their custody battle rages on. According to an insider in the latest issue of We, Jonas hopes for a peaceful resolution, while Turner is determined to relocate to the UK permanently.
