Joe Jonas addressed the issue following reports regarding his and estranged wife Sophie Turner's temporary custody arrangement for their two daughters. In a statement to We on Tuesday, October 10, the couple announced, "Through a productive and accomplished mediation, we have come to an agreement that our children will have equal time spent in both the U.S. and the UK, residing in loving environments. We eagerly anticipate our journey as co-parents."
According to court documents, Jonas and Turner, aged 27, have expressed confidence in reaching a mutually agreeable resolution for all their issues. As part of this agreement, they have agreed to alternate custody of their daughters, Willa (3) and Delphine (14 months), until January 7, 2024.
During the allotted period, Turner will have custody of the girls until October 21, allowing her the flexibility to travel with them within the United States and the United Kingdom. Subsequently, Jonas will assume custody of his daughters until November 2. For holidays, Jonas will have the children for Thanksgiving, while Turner will have them for Christmas.
Jonas initiated divorce proceedings against Turner in September, marking the end of their four-year marriage. Almost immediately, Turner retaliated by suing Jonas and accusing him of blocking her from taking their children to her home country of England. It should be noted that the children possess both American and British citizenship.
In response to the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Jonas conveyed his side of the story in a statement to Us, characterizing the situation as an unfortunate legal dispute stemming from their failing marriage. The spokesperson expressed Jonas' desire for his estranged wife to reconsider her aggressive legal stance and instead approach the matter in a more constructive and private manner.
Days later, it was confirmed by Us that the couple had signed a temporary consent agreement, ensuring that they would not relocate the girls from New York City, at least for now.
According to an insider, last month, the couple expressed their desire to eventually establish a permanent agreement, despite the ongoing negotiations. The well-being and happiness of their children are the top priority for both Joe and Sophie, and they are dedicated to achieving a resolution.
Jonas and Turner initiated their relationship in 2016 and publicly revealed their engagement in the subsequent year. They exchanged vows in a clandestine ceremony in Las Vegas during May 2019 and later celebrated with a second wedding in France a month afterward. Willa joined the family in July 2020, followed by Delphine in July 2022.
