Country music's iconic pair, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, have experienced their fair share of challenges and victories. "People doubted our relationship, thinking that two celebrities in the same industry wouldn't last," Yearwood revealed in an exclusive interview with We in 2018. "But I am committed to this family and this is where I belong. I finally understand and appreciate it, and this is what I desire. So, we work at it every single day."
The following year, Brooks revealed that he is constantly discovering new things about his wife. He exclusively told Us in 2019, "I think what inspires me about her is her different way of thinking. It challenges me to consider what I might not know and look at things from a different perspective. We're in a stage where our discussions are more intense than usual."
Yearwood added, "I believe what he's trying to say is that he listens to me and usually, I'm right."

First Meeting
Although they met in 1988, the pair were not single at the time. Yearwood was married to Christopher Latham from 1987 to 1991.

Brooks was previously married to Sandy Mahl from 1986 until 2001, and their union brought forth three children: Taylor Mayne Pearl (1992), August Anna (1994), and Allie Colleen Brooks (1996).

"I had been married for 13 months when I encountered her. When asked what I thought when I first met her, I replied, 'I felt like I had just met my wife,' which I know sounds strange," Brooks remarked prior to his A&E documentary in November 2019. Interestingly, both of them were married at the time.

A Blossoming Friendship
In 1985, Yearwood started interning at MTM Records during her college years and provided background vocals for various artists. It was three years later when she collaborated with Brooks, who assured her that if he achieved success, he would assist her in securing her own recording contract.

Big Break
In 1991, he introduced her to his producer and her career began to flourish. She lent her vocals to his second album, No Fences, and secured a record deal. That year, she also served as the opening act for Brooks and her breakthrough single, "She's in Love With the Boy," was released in March 1991.

Yearwood wed Bobby Reynolds in 1994 but their marriage ended in 1999. At the same time, Brooks and Mahl separated in 1999 and finalized their divorce in 2001. It was after this that Brooks and Yearwood started their relationship.

A Big Surprise
Despite his desire for privacy, Brooks got down on one knee and proposed to Yearwood on stage in May 2005, during an event held at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California. "Garth proposed to me and I’m freaking out onstage in front of 7,000 people. But I did say yes," Yearwood exclusively told Us about the proposal years later. "I was very surprised that’s what happened that night."

Do Good
Since tying the knot, the couple has been inseparable and enjoys blending their professional and personal lives. In October 2019, they collaborated with Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, on a Habitat for Humanity project. "That tool belt, that hard hat, everything. She is gorgeous anyway — they call her the nail gun diva — but when she’s in her full sweat and everything and swinging that hammer, yes, she is more than sexy," he told Us.

Stuck Together
During the coronavirus pandemic quarantine, the couple made a conscious decision to use the time to strengthen their bond. “We chose to confront everything during quarantine, because now there’s no escape, no walking away,” Brooks expressed during a press conference in July 2020. “It’s been a rollercoaster for us as a couple, but ultimately, what’s waiting on the other side is worth it, especially when you have the right person by your side.”

Still In Love
Fifteen years after getting married, Yearwood shared what makes her husband a great partner. "Even when I’m upset with him, [Garth] listens," the "How Do I Live" singer told Us. "He's kind, generous, and thoughtful. He still treats me like a lady, calling me 'Miss Yearwood' at home and even referring to me as 'the queen.' I never asked him to do that, but I allow it."

'Too Much' Touring
Hinting at a break after the conclusion of the U.S. Garth Brooks Stadium Tour with Yearwood in August 2022, Brooks expressed that he doesn't foresee another stadium tour in the future. "It's just too much on the crew," he explained to Entertainment Tonight. "These guys haven't been home in six months. ... I just want to be wherever that woman [Trisha] is, and I'll be happy."
Yearwood expressed mixed emotions about the end of the run, describing it as "bittersweet." She added, "The last show is always special. Even though some of us will work together again, it'll never be quite like this moment."

A Very Special Birthday
Yearwood and Brooks enjoyed the days leading up to her 58th birthday in Ireland, where they delighted fans with a series of performances in Dublin. "Ireland, it was an unforgettable trip!" the "Every Girl in This Town" singer shared on Instagram. "Thank you for welcoming us like family!! xo #GARTHinIRELAND." The "Unanswered Prayers" artist also expressed his gratitude, saying, "I may not be from here, but you make me feel like I belong! I LOVE YOU, IRELAND !!!!! love, g."

A 'Blessing and a Curse'
In August 2023, Brooks shared with Us, "I recently confided in someone about feeling utterly helpless without her. It's as if there's nothing I can accomplish without her by my side, and yet, there's nothing I can't accomplish with her. It's both a blessing and a curse – feeling liberated and self-reliant when she's present, but completely dependent when she's not. I'm certain she doesn't share these sentiments, but I do."

18 Years Later
Yearwood gave fans a peek at two beautiful bouquets of flowers on Instagram in December 2023 as the couple marked their 18th wedding anniversary. "When your husband sends you flowers and you send him flowers and the card says exactly the same thing! #happy18 #love #morethanever," she shared.
