In 2023, the concerning trend of fans throwing objects at celebrities has been widely reported, and Florence Pugh is the most recent target.
The 27-year-old actress was hit in the face by an object thrown from the crowd while on stage with Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, Zendaya, and director Denis Villeneuve at a Dune: Part Two panel during Brazil's CCXP convention on Sunday, December 3. This incident was captured on social media footage as they posed for pictures with their co-stars.
Pugh's castmates were shocked by the incident and quickly checked on her well-being. Pugh seemed to quietly express pain before bending over to retrieve the object.
Similarly, Pugh's costar Harry Styles had a similar experience earlier in the year. At a concert in Vienna, Austria, he was hit by an object thrown by a fan and briefly paused before walking offstage while shielding his eye.
After a fan threw a bracelet at her face during a June concert in Boise, Idaho, Kelsea Ballerini left the stage completely.
“Hi. I’m fine,” the 30-year-old country star wrote on her Instagram Story after the show. “Someone threw a bracelet, it hit me in the eye, and it more so just scared me than hurt me. We all have triggers and layers of fears way deeper than what is shown, and that’s why I walked offstage to calm down and make sure myself, band and crew, and the crowd all felt safe to continue.”

She said, "All I want is for shows to be a safe place for everyone. I love and appreciate all the concern. Let's make the last two shows of the Heartfirst tour the best yet."
Despite the incident, Pugh seemed to be in good spirits at Sunday's event, where she matched Zendaya in a white cutout dress with spaghetti straps and two skirt slits. The panel also showcased the first ten minutes of Dune: Part Two, giving fans a first look at Pugh as Princess Irulan.
Pugh shared an Instagram video featuring the film's new character posters on Sunday with the caption "It's nearly here ... #DunePartTwo March 1st 2024. Yipppeeeeeeeee!" The upcoming sequel will reunite Pugh with her Little Women costar Chalamet, 27, who played Theodore "Laurie" Laurence alongside Pugh's Amy March. Pugh received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in the 2020 movie directed by Greta Gerwig.

"It was absolutely amazing to reunite with Timmy. We would get together for goulash and beer and have deep conversations about life," Pugh revealed in a March interview with Buzzfeed Puppy. "I hadn't seen him in a long time, so it was truly wonderful to see how much he had grown and the commanding presence he now holds."
She added, "It was truly fascinating to witness this person I had met four years ago transform into an incredibly focused and professional actor as he led the Dune set. I had always known he had potential, but to see him excel in such a massive production was truly inspiring."
