Below Deck made its first appearance in 2013 and swiftly gained a dedicated fan base on Bravo. The popular series provides a glimpse into the lives of crew members who live and work aboard a luxurious superyacht during charter season. The show has since expanded to include successful spinoffs such as Below Deck Mediterranean, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Below Deck Down Under, and Below Deck Adventure, solidifying its status as a major franchise for the network.
As the franchise has gained popularity over the years, numerous celebrities have openly expressed their fondness for Below Deck. For Seth Rogen, the reality series imparted an important life lesson.
"I do enjoy watching Below Deck. I think the underlying message of Below Deck is that if you rent a yacht, you're not exactly the most pleasant person. You're pretty much a terrible person," he quipped on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in 2019. "It's the recurring theme of every episode. They're putting in so much effort, dressing up like complete idiots for these people, and yet no one seems satisfied enough."

With the growing popularity of the franchise, many celebrities have professed their admiration for Below Deck. One of them is Seth Rogen, who learned a valuable life lesson from the reality series.
"I really enjoy Below Deck. I feel like the message of Below Deck is that if you rent a yacht, you're not a very nice person. That's the message of every episode. They're trying so hard to please these people, dressing up and everything, and still no one is satisfied." He jokingly remarked on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2019.

Seth Rogen
"I absolutely love Below Deck, I can't believe it," Rogen exclaimed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in July 2020. "They keep trying to convince me to appear on the show, but I always decline. I just can't do it, no matter what you do, you end up looking bad, like you're the villain of the show. It's just not for me."
Even though he is a huge fan of the series, Rogen clarified why he has no interest in being a charter guest, stating, "They still expect you to pay for the cruise! It's crazy," he remarked. "Bravo keeps emailing me asking for a payment of 40 grand to appear on an episode of their TV shows, which is just ... insane. If that's how Below Deck operates, I can see why there are so many of them, because that's a good business model."

I have reached out to certain crew members and formed friendships," the actress revealed before a video message from Captain Lee Rosbach was shown on the talk show. The captain expressed his gratitude to Applegate for her support and offered words of encouragement as she faces her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

Steven Soderbergh
In a February 2023 Rolling Stone profile, the director enthusiastically praised Below Deck, emphasizing the show's focus on work, problem-solving, personality clashes, class issues, and intimate living conditions on the boats. Soderbergh commended the crew for their hard work and ability to balance work with some fun.
"Navigating relationships with colleagues is a significant aspect of almost any job. Considering how much time we spend at work, group dynamics and interactions with coworkers are endlessly intriguing. It's especially captivating to observe someone's self-destructive behavior and wonder what could have been if they had simply avoided making the situation worse. Whether it's an inability to keep quiet or a tendency to escalate issues, it's hard not to think, 'Dude, you're only making things worse! Just keep your mouth shut!'"
