Kristen Doute and Jax Taylor have come a long way since their stint on Vanderpump Rules, but the financial struggle they faced back then is unforgettable.
During the latest episode of her podcast "Sex, Love, and What Else Matters," Kristen, now 40 years old, opened up about the challenging times they had with only $5,000 in their bank account. She revealed that if they became primary cast members, they would receive an additional $5,000.
Jax, 44, who was a guest on the podcast, said the money felt life-changing at the time.
At that time, I had very little. So whatever we received... I felt like I had struck gold. $5,000? I was only paying $100 a week for my living expenses, so I thought I had hit the jackpot. During filming, I couldn't help but feel incredible. "This is amazing," I would think. "Finally, all my hard work is paying off." Throughout my life, I've always been working tirelessly, barely making ends meet. I would take on multiple jobs, but by the time I received my paycheck, I was already drowning in credit card debt.
Jax and Kristen were part of the original cast of Vanderpump Rules when it first premiered in 2013. However, Kristen recently revealed that there exists an unaired pilot featuring Jax and their former castmate Stassi Schroeder. This pilot was filmed just before they both joined the successful Bravo series.
According to Kristen, the pilot showcased Stassi, a former friend of hers, along with two other girls, all enjoying a vacation in the Bahamas. Their peaceful getaway takes an exciting turn when they encounter a handsome young man. The question then arises: which one of them will capture the attention of this attractive guy? These details were disclosed by Kristen during the latest episode of her podcast, which aired on Thursday.
Jax, on the other hand, found the concept to be perplexing due to his existing relationship with Stassi, who is 35 years old.
"I was unsure about the direction they were taking," Jax commented, referring to the pilot episode where he and Stassi were featured as experimental subjects during a presentation in Europe. "It was an enjoyable experience. We were there for about two or three days, and I got the opportunity to travel to the Bahamas without any cost. I don't believe I received any payment, perhaps just around $500, if even that. I don't even recall receiving any compensation."
After their successful stint on Vanderpump Rules, Jax and Kristen garnered attention in 2020 with their individual departures. Kristen got fired alongside Stassi because of their racially insensitive treatment towards former co-star Faith Stowers. On the other hand, Jax and his wife, Brittany Cartwright, also made the announcement that they were leaving the show.
Jax Taylor, Kristen, and Brittany, who are 34 years old, will be making a Bravo comeback in an eight-episode spinoff series. Recently, Lala Kent, their former costar, provided a clue about the timeline for the production.
Lala, 32, revealed during her Amazon Live on Monday, July 24th that there is something exciting happening which will be announced in due time. She expressed her surprise that there is a show being produced without their involvement, and emphasized that they are all best friends who should be filming a show together.
Kristen and Jax also teased about this project during a podcast reunion. Jax apologized to Kristen for his past absences and attributed it to his busy schedule, hinting that everyone will eventually learn about their upcoming venture.
