Exclusive: ‘Teen Mom 2’ Star Kailyn Lowry Reveals Heartbreaking NICU Journey with Baby No 5

Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry shares heartfelt details about the birth of her fifth baby, Rio, with partner Elijah Scott Despite being born prematurely in late 2022, Rio's strength shines as he bravely handles his NICU stay

Kailyn Lowry, the Teen Mom 2 alum, has finally opened up about her birth story and how her boyfriend, Elijah Scott, reacted to becoming a father for the first time. On her "Barely Famous" podcast episode on October 13th, the 31-year-old expressed her disappointment that Elijah didn't cry when she gave birth, as she had anticipated. She explained that because Elijah is usually a calm and level-headed person, it was unusual for her to see him out of character, and this made her feel upset.

Lowry confronted her boyfriend, whom she has been dating since April 2022, about his lack of postpartum emotions. Scott explained that he did not cry due to the traumatic nature of their son Rio's birth.

"He mentioned that it was because we didn't have any time with him when he was born and that he had to immediately go to the NICU," Lowry recollected on Friday. "I barely got to hold him for a mere three seconds before they whisked him away to the NICU. I was extremely upset and scared."

Lowry observed that there were once six nurses attending to Rio simultaneously. Elijah expressed that due to her distress, he did not have the opportunity to emotionally process the birth of their son and shed tears. Overwhelmed with the fact that she was unaware of his feelings, she tearfully confessed her lack of experience being on the outside and witnessing the birth, as she had always been the one giving birth herself. Hence, Elijah likely had the chance to come to terms with the reality of their child's birth before everything else unfolded.

Lowry believed that her son came close to losing his life during the ordeal. However, Scott perceived the health scare differently.

"For me, a stay in the NICU is almost like being on the brink of death," she stated. "It was a deeply traumatic experience for me, but for him, it was like he simply entered and quickly emerged from the NICU."

Lowry discreetly acknowledged her fifth pregnancy by subtly sharing in July that she had welcomed another child.

During an episode of her podcast "Baby Mamas No Drama," Lowry spoke with Aurora Culpo and revealed that she first discovered Culpo Sisters' show while in the hospital giving birth to one of her children. She mentioned specifically watching an episode where Culpo informed her parents about her possible separation or divorce, and how one of her sisters offered to care for the kids.

Lowry has a son named Isaac with her ex Jo Rivera, a son named Lincoln with her ex-husband Javi Marroquin, and two sons named Lux and Creed with her ex Chris Lopez. After the arrival of their new sibling, the boys were excited to meet him.

On Friday, Lowry mentioned that Lux was eager to be present for the birth, as he had been there for the birth of Creed. However, she explained that he ended up staying home because she was not expecting to give birth on that day. Lowry expressed relief that Lux wasn't present, as she believed he could have been traumatized by the experience.
