Since her debut in Mortal Kombat II in 1993, Kitana has been known for her blade-edged fans, which also appeared in the mid-90s Mortal Kombat film series, wielded by the character Talisa Soto played.

Shao Kahn’s “Wrath Hammer” made its first appearance in the 1995 Mortal Kombat 3 video game and has continued to be a part of subsequent video game titles. The oversized mallet also briefly featured in the 1997 film Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

The recreation of Kitana and Kahn’s weapons in Mortal Kombat 2 received overwhelmingly positive reactions from fans. One X user exclaimed, "OMG this looks so good," while expressing excitement to see Kitana's full design. Another fan added, "The hammer looks cool, small changes to things' appearance never hurts."

However, fans will have to wait a while before they can see these deadly weapons in action. Garner revealed in the comments that a Mortal Kombat 2 trailer won't be released for "months."

Will Mortal Kombat 2 visit the Netherrealm?

In addition to Garner’s weapon pics, he has also been sharing other behind-the-scenes material leading up to the release of Mortal Kombat 2. A set photo posted by the producer in November 2023 has sparked speculation that Mortal Kombat 2 will be visiting the Netherrealm.

The image depicts a rugged stone floor illuminated by a red light. Although the details are few, numerous enthusiasts believe that the photo captures the Hell of the Mortal Kombat universe. Some dedicated fans have even speculated that Hiroyuki Sanada's Scorpion may be just out of frame, considering Scorpion's connection to Netherrealm in the video games.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise, I am thrilled to see the exclusive sneak peek of two legendary weapons in Mortal Kombat 2. Kitana's fan and Shao Kahn's war hammer are iconic symbols of the series, and I can't wait to see them in action on the big screen. The recreation of these weapons looks incredibly faithful to the source material, and I appreciate the attention to detail that the filmmakers have put into them. I believe that these weapons will add an extra layer of authenticity and excitement to the movie, and I can't wait to see how they are used in the upcoming sequel.

In addition to the weapons reveal, I am also intrigued by the possibility that Mortal Kombat 2 will venture into the dark realms of the Netherrealm. The set photo shared by producer Todd Garner suggests that we may get to explore this iconic location from the video games, which would be a major treat for fans. The Netherrealm is a hellish dimension ruled by the evil sorcerer Quan Chi, and it is home to some of the most powerful and dangerous creatures in the Mortal Kombat universe. I believe that exploring the Netherrealm would add a new level of depth and complexity to the movie, and I can't wait to see what the filmmakers have in store for us.
