Morgan Evans recently debuted a new song called "Tequila Man" following his breakup with Kelsea Ballerini. Fans have noticed similarities between the track and one of Ballerini's previous hits. The 38-year-old singer shared an acoustic performance of the song on TikTok, mentioning that it draws inspiration from the "heavy" experiences that many people go through but rarely discuss openly.
In the video, Evans can be seen strumming his guitar while singing in a somber tone, "It felt like my entire life had suddenly become a living nightmare. She confessed that she had found someone else. It's been about a year or two since then, but she couldn't keep the truth hidden anymore."
He goes on to say, "I removed my wedding ring and swiftly left the driveway, consumed by a mix of pain and anger. I suppose I followed my heart and ended up here, in this bar."
Evans, in the chorus, requests a beverage by singing, "I would like a tequila, my friend / Pour me one that is tall and strong / One that has the power to make me forget everything / Replenish me with tequila once more, my friend."
While many fans complimented Evans' composition in the comments section, with one expressing hope for his emotional recovery after his divorce, others observed that the melody seemed reminiscent. "Why does the opening resemble 'Leave Me Again'?" one user inquired, referring to a heartfelt song released earlier this year by Ballerini, aged 29.

After their nearly five-year marriage, Ballerini and Evans publicly announced their separation in August 2022. Reflecting on their journey of love, growth, and effort, Ballerini expressed gratitude for their years together and optimism for the future seasons ahead in a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram Story.
Evans hinted that the decision to end their marriage may not have been mutual in a statement of his own. He expressed his sadness in confirming the news of their separation after nearly 5 years of being married, sharing it through his Instagram Story. Despite his wishes for it to be different, he acknowledged that sadly, it is not.
The news of their divorce caused shockwaves in the country music scene. According to an exclusive source, the couple had previously taken a private break before ultimately being left with no choice but to officially separate. The insider revealed that Ballerini and Evans had been working on their marriage for many years, even seeking therapy before their eventual split.
Ballerini filed for divorce in August 2022 and reached a settlement three months later. Following her separation, she released an EP on Valentine's Day, delving deeper into her emotional journey. The EP's closing track, "Leave Me Again," expresses her desires for both herself and her ex-husband in their future endeavors. In the song, she sings, "I wish for your happiness when our paths cross again. May you find love, a fulfilling home, and a wonderful family. And I pray that I never lose myself once more."
Evans had previously unveiled a song last autumn called "Over for You," which drew inspiration from the divorce of the duo. In a February interview on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Ballerini opened up about feeling "used" when she heard the song.
"It felt like he seized an opportunity by releasing it at that time – when we were still dealing with the legal aspects of our divorce. ... I acknowledge his personal healing process and I respect that," she expressed. "However, publicly capitalizing on it feels somewhat distasteful to me - before it was truly resolved."
Ballerini disclosed that she and Evans had not maintained contact following their breakup. She expressed her ability to extend grace, acknowledging the pain he experienced. However, she wondered how she could have been married to someone for such a long time without being aware of that particular aspect of his character. This is what troubles her deeply.
