Host Jesse Palmer may try to stay neutral on The Bachelor, but it's clear he was emotionally invested in Joey Graziadei's journey.
After the hometown visits in season 28, which aired on Monday, March 4, Jesse, 45, shared that Kelsey Anderson's return to New Orleans really touched his heart.
Jesse told Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, March 5 that he cried while watching Kelsey talk with her dad. He mentioned how it helped him understand the qualities Kelsey is seeking in a husband, as they are the same qualities her dad has towards her mom.
Jesse described the father-daughter conversation as truly heartwarming.
Kelsey’s hometown was the first one featured on Monday. It was an emotional episode for her because her mother, Denise Anderson, passed away in 2018 after fighting breast cancer.
When Joey, who is 28 years old, arrived in town, he got to meet Kelsey’s dad, Mark Anderson, as well as two of her siblings, Matthew and Taylor Anderson. (Her older brother, Pascal Anderson, serves in the military.)
During a one-on-one conversation, Joey expressed his genuine feelings for Kelsey and his hopefulness to Mark. Mark then mentioned that he expected Joey to be a protector for his daughter.
Who would you like to see return for a second season of The Bachelor?
Mark expressed his happiness after approving of Joey, saying, “I feel very, very happy, and it was wonderful to see Kelsey and to see Joey and the connection they have.”
He mentioned that the decision ultimately lies with his daughter. “I think a man deserving of Kelsey is the one she picks,” he excitedly shared, noting that Kelsey had feelings for Joey. “I do hope she’s engaged when she comes home,” Mark added.
Kelsey had a mix of emotions during her hometown date. Riding a bike with Joey through New Orleans, she saw butterflies and wished her mother could meet him. The butterflies reminded her of her late mom, which made the moment bittersweet for her.
During her confessional, Kelsey shed a few tears, expressing how much her mom would have loved Joey. Despite wanting to tell Joey that she loved him, Kelsey decided to keep her feelings to herself for the time being.
Kelsey, even though she didn't say it out loud, received a rose during the ceremony. Daisy and Rachel got roses too, but Maria was sent home.
Joey mentioned having some doubts after meeting Maria's family, which led him to decide to say goodbye to her.
The Bachelor airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
